G3X Upgrade questions

The switch, when actuated, released a boxing-glove on a spring out of the dashboard, striking the co-pilot on the chin at the precise angle recommended by the FAA.
Wile E. Coyote would approve of this ACME upgrade

EDIT: I can't believe I found this picture

Well, I suppose if you knock out the co-pilot, there is no need to worry about them messing with the trim switch..............

And, as reported above makes the intercom a lot quieter.......o_O:happydance:

Have never thought of that. My guess is that would not be available, in that the AP unit probably was never built to interpret two different commands from two controllers. Also begs the question of what should the appropriate response of the trim system be in that situation?
I asked because I’ve been flying from the right seat now in preparation for my CFI Checkride.

Serious question. What scenario do you envision needing to intervene with a student using only electric trim?

In that scenario are there alternate interventions that can achieve the same outcome?

You can always reach over and flip the red tagged circuit breaker to shut power off to the trim motors.

I’m only wanting it for myself when I fly solo from the right seat. Lol

Almost the same situatuon with the quote I just had in Canada.
G3X+ EIS, GAD27, CiES fuel sender, panel redesign
G5, GMA340, GNS430W, MX11 com, Stratus ES+2i are existing
Quoted for 281hrs labor...

Can't beleive guys above intalled much more units but only for 110/150 hrs.

That’s pretty much what I got, except I went with a Garmin audio panel and it’s recommended to go with a G5 with the G3X vs the 275. Also, EIS with your G3X and a GTX345R (remote mounted). Exciting!!

It isn’t anything close to 445hrs, shop around. My final bill came in at 151hrs. You can reach out to the guys who did mine. They do great work.
Hey,
Canadian Aircraft based in Windsor, Ontario looking for upgrading to G3X.
Your final hrs seems very reasonable.

May I know your shop name?
Do you happen to know are they willing to do job on a Canadian aircraft?

Thanks in advance

I just had a completely new panel installed, ripping out everything I previously had, including my manual trim and installing electric trim.
I already had a GTN 650, but everything else was new and needed installed/wired. I did a G3X system:
- GDU 460
- G5
- GSU 25
- GMU 11
- GEA
- GTR 205x (remote com 2)
- GMA 245
- GMC 507
- 2x GSA 28
- GAD 27
- GAD 29
- GTX 45R
- GTP 59

Total was around 150 hours of labor.
We're about to start a similar scope of work, plus completely replacing every circuit breaker and panel switch from the subpanel, and our quote is for 300 hours. 445 sounds rich.

445 hours, omg, are they building the plane from scratch? I've literally wired whole food processing plants in less than 400 hours
i'm thinking that is the go away price, maybe the we know this fool has money price.

my plane, now has 2 g5s. gnc355, gns480, aerocruze 100, stratus adsb, electronic ignition and new pma audio panel.
started with 2 knx170b's and a kma20. the gns480 has been installed twice btw.

if i added up all the annuals, random shop trips and all the avionics work, i'd bet i don't have 400 hours labor total in it.

my next upgrade is either replacing the wing or a g3x install, so i'm kinda interested in how this turns out for you

I've been considering a panel upgrade from a while now on my turbo arrow and am curious on the typical amount of hours of labor required to install the following:
-G3X
-GTX 345
-GTR 205
-GI 275
-PMA 450b
-GFC 500 w/ pitch trim

I am currently waiting on a couple of quotes to come in and just want to make sure they aren't inflated. I have a quote for a similar setup from back in 2022 and it was around 445hrs for the install which seems pretty high

300 sounds rich, 445 is insane.
I had G3X (and associated boxes like GDL50R, 29B, etc), GFC500, AV20, all switches and entire panel redesigned including circuit breaker panel for a 100 hours.

What are you using to drive the GFC500? We're doing a soup-to-nuts full rewiring of the airplane. CIES fuel senders, GEA24 w/new probes, fuel flow transducer, etc., plus a TCW battery backup system. Just properly configuring and testing everything will likely take 30 hours.

The G3X drives the GFC500. I already had the JPI 900 installed previously, about 50 hours work.

There is rarely something like a „similar“ set-up in the avionic world.

It is not unusual to see garden variety in the estimated hours. Same is true for panel cutting or harnesses.

Not sure if this proposed set-up makes really sense. G3X with a/p but no GPS navigator is highly unusual. If there is already one in place, the integration will take a few hours.

Reconsider the GI275. GI275 and GFC500 do not play as nice together as the G5 / GFC500 combo.
I'm completely happy with my GI275 GI 275 G500 setup....

How many here have actually installed a G3X system and wiring? I’m guessing not many, and that makes sense given that only the EXP version can be self-installed. The certified one requires dealer install, or did last I looked. In either case it’s a very labor intensive job. Bench wiring will speed it up, but it’s still overwhelming. If hiring it done? Make sure the shop has done at least several installs before and will assign your install to somebody with G3X install experience. You don’t want to pay shop rates for them to read the manual and figure it out as they go.

Amen to that. I have the only PA34 installation of the G500 aside from the prototype. My vendor bid high (a large shop) but he was willing to do it. He lost his shirt on it but was a "big boy" and stuck to the price.

They had not estimated that they'd have to remove the Vert. Stab to get the bucking bar in the correct place to build the servo shelf wayyy back in the tail. So when he cooked my AXC-35 on a Universal power supply, I was a big boy too. I installed a new one.

Short, there was nobody in the country with experience on this setup. Even worse the prototype didn't have Known ice. In the PA 34 the boot controller is located wtihere the pitch trim servo goes. Many hours and much FAA correspondence by the shop, so I would not lose my K-Ice function/certification.

Choose carefully.
