Well Over $8/gal @Kcos… no self serve option either. I removed the anti siphon valve on an old SUV so I can pump car gas from it to my c172 heavy. The local gas station a block from airport is $3.89 now for regular 85 octane car gas, was $2.69 just 4-6 months ago. Another advantage with experimentals.
I can get about a 30 cent per gallon highway tax rebate but too lazy to keep the receipts and send in the form, but that may change.
I loaned it to A couple of time building CFIs for sun n fun and they are mapping out the cheapest gas spots to stop, usually with car gas on the field or they borrow a crew car with a couple of 5 gal tanks they take (both are young ladies and don’t seem to get any questions from FBO line guys). They also typically figure out the most efficient airspeed and alt to sip fuel, which was determined to be 5.4 GPH @90 kts by the last 2 that flew it to OSH…..they pay their own fuel so they get creative.
A few hanger neighbors said they won’t be flying much due to gas costs. I told a disgruntled guy with a C182 to look into a MOGAS STC as local gas station a block away has non ethanol gas. He didn’t know anything about the STC and excitedly set off to find out more. He is also currently dealing with lack of A&Ps on field to fix a nose strut leak. There’s also a guy that uses car gas without any STC for years without issue. I think the mogas STC will become very popular, even though it’s simply paperwork.
Also seeing wet rental cost increases, as well as some renting by dry rate to hedge their losses.
Point is gas prices adding more pressure to GA. When gas goes up and stays high for a while, I typically see increase in number of planes for sale, especially larger models and especially twins.
Wondering if number of aircraft going to sun n fun will significantly decrease.
