Florida's Newest TFR

This has been in the notes for this airport for quite some time. I didn't think anyone was using it on a regular basis.

Not surprised. Seems like the AOPA article is much ado about nothing.

According to a friend/CFI in the area, it's mostly used for instrument approach practice.

The TFR is only about 1/4 the runway length and only extends up to 1000’. Could it still be used to practice instrument approaches?

That airport was on my list (I want to land at every public-use airport in the state), and I never got around to going there. I doubt it will ever re-open.

Since the TFR only covers 1/4 of the runway, sounds like you could still get in and out in a suitably STOL aircraft. The dream lives!

If it’s to be used for only what it’s going to be used for, then it should not be a permanent thing based on commensurate preventative action…so just wait a year or three and fly there later.

1/4 of a 10,500ft runway? You and I have a different definition of STOL. :)

He’s gotten different answers to that. I’d only be guessing.

when I got my PPL at KOPF in 2017 we used it all the time for practice

My guess is the TFR is mainly to restrict drones, especially from the media, from flying over or into the camp. At least based on the size shown above.

I don't get it. :dunno:
