So if you were driving to the airport to go fly could you go ahead and contact ATC (cellphone?) and have your emergency pre declared? :dunno:

Prolly should file a NASA report with that one. Of course you could just tell them that you are the nut job R&W and they will know what to do.

yes

I like to get the trucks rolling well before I take the runway.

Reminds me of that old joke about the former 747 captain who bought a Skyhawk, and declared an emergency while filing his first IFR flight plan with that aircraft.

Best be prepared. Send out the fire trucks, the ambulances, the fuel truck, the truck with porta-potties, and the taco cart.

It's really bad when other pilots begin declaring emergencies when they see you drive through the gate or pull your plane out of the hangar or hear you voice on the radio.

Heard a guy at felts field in his car on a handheld ask the tower where a restroom was. He should have declared.

I like to have a police escort everytime I go to the airport to fly. Cuts down on the drive time significantly.

I have ELTs in all of my vehicles, and they are activated when the ignition is on. If I get into trouble they will be able to catch up with me and assist.

If you file your emergency ahead of time, are you on a timed release?

I suspect that it's possible someone might try to hijack me on the way to the airport, but that's less likely now that there's a Sig on my hip.

Depends on the distance to the airport. Weather I'm bingo fuel or not.

I think this goes back to the whole Zombie Apocalypse. Or was that Disco Apocalypse?

Either way, its bad - you got to do what you've got to do and sometimes the PIC has to put on the big boy pants and take charge!

What if the controller responds negative to your emergency declaration and tells all VFR traffic not to call them and only respond when spoken to? Assuming you are going to the airport under VFR that is.

Hey, that has only happened to me twice, so far!

Man, you must be having a bad week and have decided to take it out on us.
Or are you trying to be the new 6PC.

The only emergency that could be declared in the car is if you really have to go to the bathroom and there is none near by. Why atc needs to know that is beyond me!

.......but what if the car had a flat tire?
