Yeah. Someone in my neighborhood called the police on some kids playing basketball in front of their [own] house. Many others posting about how they 'deserved' it.
Most people don't realize their own evilness.

    LOL. Knew this was coming.

If you leave liquor open to keep the detoxing functional alcoholics out of the hospitals, then people think it’s all the vice shops that need to be open, so you leave the pot shops open as “essential” too...

And then that one tobacco shop owner sees through the fascade and says he’s staying open too...

In San Antonio they went chasing after all the vape shops and issued citations to each one.

I suppose essential vices would include the Nevada brothels?

My wife isn't heavy, but even if she was I would NEVER refer to her as "a small circle of people." She'd kill me. The virus, I'll survive.

The one thing this pandemic has demonstrated is that, as a society, we have finally lost our "herd immunity" to stupid. We used to have a stable minority of those prone to stupid. But, now it's obviously spread to the point that we can no longer manage it. It'll take generations to get it back under control, if its even possible. The scientific community is completely at odds on this issue. So much so, that it seems even they have begun deferring to political leaders for solutions.

    We still do.

Our great mistake was electing that minority to public office. And that's a non-partisan comment, by the way.

Honestly I haven’t seen them defer as much as become politicians themselves or simply say nothing at all, because they know there isn’t a solution.

I’m torn on this. I really don’t want the sorts of people who get into and stay in politics out bothering and getting in the way of intelligent people in the rest of the real world.

Keep the failed lawyers trapped in lifelong “lawmaking” service but just limit their power, would be the engineering ideal for such a known destructive and useless crowd, with no good other alternatives on where to keep them in warm meat storage.

Term limits, minimal spending allowed on political campaigns with stiff criminal penalties for violations. Recall provisions on all federal office holders.

I think that was the same day he was up there touting his... "natural ability to understand these medical terms", or something along those lines.
"People are really surprised I understand this stuff"....... Really!!!

I'm so confused on what to do.

The Rules (for COVID-19):....in a nutshell

    Source unknown

    1. Basically, you can't leave the house for any reason, but if you have to, then you can.

    2. Masks are useless, but maybe you have to wear one, it can save you, it is useless, but maybe it is mandatory as well.

    3. Stores are closed, except those that are open.

    4. You should not go to hospitals unless you have to go there. Same applies to doctors, you should only go there in case of emergency, provided you are not too sick.

    5. This virus is deadly but still not too scary, except that sometimes it actually leads to a global disaster.

    6. Gloves won't help, but they can still help.

    7. Everyone needs to stay HOME, but it's important to GO OUT.

    8. There is no shortage of groceries in the supermarket, but there are many things missing when you go there in the evening, but not in the morning. Sometimes.

    9. The virus has no effect on children except those it affects.

    10. Animals are not affected, but there is still a cat that tested positive in Belgium in February when no one had been tested, plus a few tigers here and there…

    11. You will have many symptoms when you are sick, but you can also get sick without symptoms, have symptoms without being sick, or be contagious without having symptoms. Oh, my God.

    12. In order not to get sick, you have to eat well and exercise, but eat whatever you have on hand and it’s better not to go out, well, but no…

    13. It's better to get some fresh air, but you get looked at very wrong when you get some fresh air, and most importantly, you don't go to parks or walk. But don’t sit down, except that you can do that now if you are old, but not for too long or if you are pregnant (but not too old).

    14. You can't go to retirement homes, unless you have to take care of the elderly and bring food and medication.

    15. If you are sick, you can't go out, but you can go to the pharmacy.

    16. You can get restaurant food delivered to the house, which may have been prepared by people who didn't wear masks or gloves. But you have to have your groceries decontaminated outside for 3 hours. Pizza too?

    17. Every disturbing article or disturbing interview starts with " I don't want to trigger panic, but…"

    18. You can't see your older mother or grandmother, but you can take a taxi and meet an older taxi driver.

    19. You can walk around with a friend but not with your family if they don't live under the same roof.

    20. You are safe if you maintain the appropriate social distance, but you can’t go out with friends or strangers at the safe social distance.

    21. The virus remains active on different surfaces for two hours, no, four, no, six, no, we didn't say hours, maybe days? But it takes a damp environment. Oh no, not necessarily.

    22. The virus stays in the air - well no, or yes, maybe, especially in a closed room, in one hour a sick person can infect ten, so if it falls, all our children were already infected at school before it was closed. But remember, if you stay at the recommended social distance, however in certain circumstances you should maintain a greater distance, which, studies show, the virus can travel further, maybe.

    23. We count the number of deaths but we don't know how many people are infected as we have only tested so far those who were "almost dead" to find out if that's what they will die of…

    24. We have no treatment, except that there may be one that apparently is not dangerous unless you take too much (which is the case with all medications).

    25. We should stay locked up until the virus disappears, but it will only disappear if we achieve collective immunity, so when it circulates… but we must no longer be locked up for that?

OK... here's my head-shaking-in-wonderment event. You know that $1200/person check all we taxpayers just sent out to everyone to help them get through hard times? Well... I had to go to Walmart recently to pick up avocado oil my wife had ordered....

Besides the usual cluelessness/lack of common courtesy in the clientele, as I was waiting in the the "pickup order" line vainly attempting to stay the required 6 feet away from other humans (pretty much impossible to do if they don't seem to want to stay 6 feet away from you, but whatever), I overhead the excited conversations from some of the people in line as they gleefully shared their joy in picking up their, respectively, new Xbox One S and a few games, large screen HDR TV, etc., paid for with their recently received $1200/person check from yours truly and all other taxpayers... to help them through hard times.

I'm not DEDUCING that's where the money came from for these purchases... they were loudly PROCLAIMING the source. Funny how the bill for this spending package was originally couched as "aid" to help people get through difficult times, but then somehow it morphed into a "COVID Stimulus Package" or something like that. I'm happy to buy starving people food, cold people shelter, and sick people medical care. I do NOT want to buy anyone an Xbox or TV.

I'm still trying to figure out why we're "stimulating" an economy at the same time we're shutting down that economy. If you stop shutting it down, you won't need to stimulate it!

I understand the need to help folks who are temporarily (I hope) out of work. I don't understand why normal unemployment pay isn't adequate to the task now if it was prior to COVID-19.

Oh well - I need to stop venting before I get the thread locked.

So would it make you happier if they used the stimulus cash to buy their food and then used the money they were going to use for food to buy the xbox? Its a check for everyone who makes less than $100k individually or less than $200k jointly. You have to expect that lots of people in that group will need that cast to keep the lights on and keep food on the table. But you also have to expect that not everyone will actually need it to survive. And also there are lots of stupid people out there. If you let that bother you, you're going to spend a good chunk of your life being bothered.

    @MuseChaser

Have you ever been stuck at home with a teenager, who cannot go out, cannot see friends?
There is a reason why so many electronic/gaming stores are considered "essential". A few of my son's friends (late 20s early 30s) work in grocery stores, they are considered essential. As such, they have work and home (usually a studio apartment). No hanging with friends, no going out. Most of them had no TVs at home, all they have is their phones. So yeah, they bought TVs, XBox and other toys. I do not blame them.

    @Half Fast
If you do not understand at this point the math on shutting down the economy or the possible alternatives to such an action; than you likely never will.
The "stimulus" was sized in theory to replace six weeks of demand destruction in the USA.

You don’t stimulate AND shut down simultaneously. These checks aren’t “stimulus” checks.

I want to whack the next person to say breaking quarantine = 2% chance of death. No it doesn't, you have to actually get the virus first. When I calculated the overall death rate by dividing Fauci's 200,000 projection by the overall population I get about 0.06% overall death rate. Even then we're hearing that it's likely less than that because of the high number of people who are testing positive but asymptomatic now.. and if you don't fall into one of the high risk categories it's even lower yet.

The press paints everything in the worst possible light by presenting the data in the worst perspective for maximum fear. By all means precautions should be taken but this tattling on your neighbors and banning people from buying certain things crap is just ridiculous when you put the actual risks into perspective.

Regardless of what various folks may have said about it, it seems to me that in reality, the checks serve a dual purpose of helping the unemployed and stimulating the economy. Buying anything, whether it's a big-screen TV or anything else, would seem to contribute to the latter.

On the other hand, in my case the stimulus money that I received was likely to just sit around in my bank account, and I didn't see where that was going to help the economy much, if any. So I donated it to a fund that has been set up to help out-of-work former colleagues who were employed by a part-time symphony that I have since retired from. (While a few of them may have "day jobs" at essential businesses, my guess is that most of them do not.)

I'm not saying that the stimulus package is perfect; far from it. As the saying goes, "haste makes waste." On the other hand, haste may have been justified in this case.
