    Pretty incredible. Good piloting!

In the video she says they tried to interview the pilot, but he declined their request... I wonder if he just wasn't interested in talking to the news, or was concerned about insurance, etc., or both

It seems there was a fuel pump issue, and in one of the shots you can see what looks like fuel dripping from the bottom of the cowl

Looks like a former CAP plane.

that's what I thought it was too, but it appears it may be registered privately now. I would have thought CAP for publicity reasons would change the color scheme on their planes before selling them

Excellent job by the pilot. The media actually helped to prove the fuel pump issue (if it was fuel dripping out of the cowling) by capturing the moment. Glad that it all worked out with no injuries. Probably the 2nd best outcome given the issue/circumstances (the first being able to land at the intended airport.)

Definitely the prudent thing would be not to talk to them. Although I could also see myself being on a massive adrenaline high after something like that and giving them a very short interview

Yes, I saw that also. Did something similar in a Hughes 300 helicopter way back in 76. Landed in a demolition company truck lot, saw the wires and went under them in the flare to land.

After a successful, emergency landing, why would you talk to the press? They can only twist your words, and get you in a bind ,with the investigation.

Because you are excited that you just lived through a nnear death experience, and maybe you could help the media not butcher the story, and blame it on the lack of a flight plan, crappy training, etc. Nothing wrong with giving them an actual expert opinion first-hand account

"yeah we had a slight mechanical issue with the fuel pump and had to make an emergency landing and this was the best place to do it. We're just happy that no one got hurt" I doubt in this kind of situation the media interviewer would be too manipulative, especially with an on scene person like this on a happy ending topical new story

I guess I'm in the minority on this one, but we always complain about how horrible the media is and how they get these stories wrong, so why not give them an actual factual first hand account?

    Sully certainly soaked it up!

So, question, that's an older/former CAP Cessna so it's almost assuredly a carbeurated engine. What fuel pump failed???

They don't, they remove the badges and logos but leave the basic color scheme intact.

I suppose it could have an aftermarket engine installation, like a 180 hp Lycoming conversion. Depending on which STC package a guy buys I think some require a fuel pump while others do not.

Stock 172P would not have a fuel pump.

We have an N number. I wonder if we can glean that bit of info from google...

    And indeed, @bnt83 is correct!

Air Plains conversions generally use the O-360-A4M. Doesn't the -A4M have a fuel pump?

I think Avcon conversions use a fuel pump. The Air Plains and Penn Yan Aero conversions both appear to not add a fuel pump.

I believe the O-360-A4M was produced by Lycoming for the PA28-181. In that installation there is a fuel pump, however for the Air Plains conversion for the C172, the gravity fed fuel system is retained. A long winded answer for "Not necessarily"...

I can't remember the name of the STC, but there is one for C172's that add an O-360 and a constant speed propeller. Those conversions do have a fuel pump...

Would bet on a carb leak or broken fuel line, not fuel pump. Recently had to OH our carb after finding a puddle of fuel on the hangar floor under the nose.
