BasicMed doc needed--Monterey/Santa Cruz CA area

Or…. Someone told the insurance that Bob had Basic Med when he didn’t.
Before they hand a 20 K check to my friend for the airplane I’m sure they investigated to find out what I actually did have in my possession, which was a valid ATP and a valid medical. AIG renewed my policy for next year starting November 1.

Interesting. Google search "NTSB ERA26LA273" without the quotation marks.

I downloaded the PDF so I'll host it somewhere if need be.
The Google worked. Looks like he simply took off without checking that he had the needed fuel.

36,000 hour ATPL who thinks he's eligible to act as PIC under 61.113(i) with a withdrawn Authorization for Special Issuance did that, mind you.

Same guy has been permanently banned from Nantucket airport. Some of his antics include the following -

  • In 2018, left a damaged aircraft on the runway, an airplane seat on the taxiway and a passenger in the aircraft
  • Landing his aircraft at least 24 times in the summer of 2021 without permission
  • Taxiing across a grass island on the airfield
  • Urinating on the airfield in front of three airport employees and dumping a full urinal on airfield grass.
  • Flew into the airport using an aircraft owned by a different pilot and did not radio to airport operations for parking.

Interesting read.

And here is the link to the NTSB Final Report from Bob's 2026 incident. Incident number is ERA26LA273. In the pilot information, under "Medical Certification", it says "BasicMed Unknown".

This plane was N9758J. I've flown N9781J, which is also a Cherokee.
The docket has the pilot's statement.
