"The fear is that the impending higher prices on consumer products, along with a slowing economy, will keep people from traveling far from home for vacations — or from taking vacations at all."

Hearing the dreaded F word from some airline pilots lately.
Flights Schools any word?

You won’t see the price of flight training go down. Could be that dreaded word Layoffs in the future.

cripes... it took me forever to break the code...

Well this household at least isn't going on any exotic locations this year, economic concerns among the reasons. And there will be fewer people from Canada and other countries coming here.

My AAL stock is below $10 again. All inter-related surely.

It feels busy as anything, everywhere…

Hotels and airlines are always overbooked, never receive those free upgrades, service is overworked, so I’m not sure what’s going on.

Just wait till we start getting warm weather, people are going to go out like crazy.

Why people think economy have no inertia is interesting…

The regional and so patiently waiting for a date for has started offering critical coverage. So at the current time there's more flights than there are pilots that want to fly them.

My son is at a 141 school in Florida for his ppl. He’s doing it part 61. Majority almost all are from India. So far they still seem busy. Point is they the Indians train up through commercial multi and that’s it. Then with 250 hours they leave to fly right seat on the airlines back home. No ATP for them. The Korean crash the FO had only 300 hours except for the hours flown in the Boeing.
Trade wars will tell how Asian airlines go and what slowdown is ahead if any for Florida flight schools.

The aviation industry always ebbs and flows with the economy, with pilot hiring right in lock step with it. It is usually one of the first to be impacted and the last to recover as travel is an elective expense and one easily cut. But don't despair, it comes back. If you want to work as a pilot it is just a way of life. The best you can hope for is to hit the market when its hot and have high enough seniority on the winning team when it drops.

They hire until they furlough… so how they gonna start hiring again if they don’t furlough? It’s part of the process.

I don’t write the rules.

Fuel is cheap.

No!
My IRA just **** it's pants. I am too young to sell.
I told my guy "Don't call me unless I am broke or wealthy" but I peeked. Bad idea.
Aww...you didn't lose anything unless you liquidated equities...and liquidated them at a price lower than purchase. I dumped some cash in a few weeks ago on a dip and, probably, the purchased equities are worth less than the basis today. But I have no need, at least foreseeable, to liquidate those assets for at least 3-4 years. At that time, based on historical trends, I should have an asset that has appreciated beyond the rate of inflation. So relax, get that divorce, an upgrade your airplane! :goofy: :goofy:

My airline is still hiring, and the CEO has said that a down market will give us opportunities that other airlines may not take advantage of.

Sure hope so before I write the check for college. When is the next big pilot retirement phase coming and is there one age wise?

That kind of makes more sense than having to spend 1200 hours flying skydivers to 12,000 feet all day. May as well spend that time learning what it is you plan to do for the rest of your career.

The big hiring window was 2021-2023. We'll not see anything like that again for a while.
Kinda makes me regret not answering the postcard begging me to come fly for a regional back in 2015. I could probably be in the left seat at a major by now, maybe even a widebody, and making a helluva lot more money.

That’s also how it was pre-Colgan here and how most of the rest of the world operates. The EASA MPL.

The basic process is you get a spot in the airline’s training program and they send you thru their structured program to fly their plane. In return, you sign a training contract.

With the stock market conditions any talk in the pilots lounge about a pullback?
