Is there a way to change the name of this forum to "Oshkosh" or "EAA Oshkosh"? I absolutely gag at Airventure

At least they should remove the spurious space. It bothers me almost as much as when people write Osh Kosh.

Nobody says AirVenture but the EAA itself. Everybody outside the state of Wisconsin calls it Oshkosh. Those inside the state refer to it as "The EAA" as in "Yah, Hey Der. So yer goin' to the EAA?"

In defense of the locals, EAA headquarters is there year round. The event only lasts a week. It wouldn't make any sense for them to say "are ya going to Oshkosh?" when you're already in Oshkosh. Since we can all agree the Airventure name leaves something to be desired, EAA it is.

Honestly, Airventure isn't that bad of a name, but asking a bunch of old guys (most of who we are) that have been calling the event Oshkosh for decades to resist inertia and call it Airventure is futile.

By the way, what do the locals call "Sturgis"?

Well, I don't care about changing the name of this subforum. I also don't care about leaving it the way it is since Airventure/Air Venture/massive source of revenue are all appropriate names.

Leaving it Airventure is one thing but leaving it Air Venture is f***ed up on a 3rd grade* English level.

*a 5th grade English level if you didn't go to Catholic school.

    OH!

    You're right (of course)

Seems it used to be Air Venture and there was a thread long ago and far away about wanting that fixed.

I was confused by Jim's title and incorrectly assumed it was still two words (as did Ron).

    My bad.

we need a subforum where people can enter all subforum requests, like renames, new subforums, etc... this way I can just put the whole subforum on ignore.

Don't be silly. We've got many ways to get the MC to track a thread. And not all result in bans or warnings. :)

Yeah, but if you want to sound like a local you've got to pinch your nose so you sound like a duck under water and pronounce it "Da EEEEEE AYE AYE"

Depends. Has Bryan picked a week for his Fly-in yet? I understand the Oshkosh one was pretty well attended.

    No! No! No!

We use the name of the town, not the name of the show. Geesh!!! It's Lakeland!

When I was down there this year and at a restaurant, I was asked if I was there for “the fly-in” so maybe just that?

Can we rename the event "Squareventure" since 92% of the attendees are old white guys?

Sun N Fun is a strange one since that's both the name of the educational organization that operates year-round at LAL, AND the fly-in that occurs in April.

Well, actually the full name of the fly-in is "Sun 'N Fun International Fly-In & Expo".

If they have another year of three days of bad weather prior to the show and a mad scramble to get in, will they rename it Mid-airVenture? :)

I'm not a lawyer. I don't even LIKE lawyers. But I'd be hard pressed to defend that phrase if challenged. It was in wide use by lots of folks including a host of published media that could be used to prove that EAA didn't "invent" the phrase.

Just my 8% of two-bits worth.

"Home." But if you mean the rally, then I think they mostly call it "Disney vacation." As in "we rented our house out for a week and it paid to fly our family first class to Disney World."

The problem was not that "Oshkosh Fly-in" was a trademark was that that wasn't sufficient to ban other uses of the word "Oshkosh" in combinations with aviation things (airplanes, etc..).
