Zero-Zero Below and Out of Options - IFR Past Minimums

That’s what I did one time back around 1973-ish. Destination was KLWM, I was coming back from Detroit at night in an Aztec with a huge tailwind. When the sun came up in the east, I could see everything was socked in, everywhere within fuel range was was essentially zero-zero. I shot the ILS -...

    Aspen 1000 Evolution + 430W + Century 2000 A/P ... ???

I’d like to get folks thoughts on this combination. I’m contemplating buying a Piper Turbo Arrow with this set-up. I’m familiar with the Garmin 430 but not the Aspen PFD/MFD or the Century A/P. (Is the Century 2000 a later derivative of the older Piper Altimatic series autopilots?) Does anyone...

Aircraft rental near SNA or LGB?

Still searching.......... anyone know an owner at SNA or LGB with an under-utilized high performance airplane that they might like to rent occasionally? I'm an ATP/CFI/CFII, and would be happy to trade instruction for aircraft time or a discounted price. A Cessna 210 or PA32 would be ideal, but...

    Wanted: Partnership Partnership SoCal

I might be interested in a partnership in a 210, or Cherokee Six/Saratoga/Lance..... and/or could do checkouts or instruction for you guys. I’m a CFI with over 1000 hrs in the 210 and probably close to 2000 hrs in the PA32. I think you’ll find the six seaters are much better family traveling...

Aircraft rental near SNA or LGB?

DA40 would be ok. Are you affiliated with Angel City Flyers? How many DA40’s do they have? .....Couldn’t tell from their website. My experience is that aircraft rental outfits with small fleets are unwilling to rent aircraft for long trips without unrealistically large flight hour minimums per day.

Aircraft rental near SNA or LGB?

I’m trying to find an outfit - or an individual - in SoCal, preferably SNA or LGB, that has a reasonably fast (140+ kts) aircraft for rent, that can be “gone” for two day trips about every six weeks, and about three or four 5-6 day trips per year. Plus the occasional $200 hamburger local...

Quick/Easy Aviation weather website or app?

I've been away from light general aviation airplane flying for about five years. Back then, my favorite "go to" site for local or X-C flights in my Cherokee was Duats.com....... it was quick & easy to use....... but sadly, now, it is gone. Any recommendation for what to use these days? I'd...

A36 Bonanza Owner in SoCal to take me for a short flight?

Looked at that, seems like a more "Technical" type of website, I didn't see a sub-Forum that seemed to allow this kind of informal post/request.

A36 Bonanza Owner in SoCal to take me for a short flight?

I sold my Cherokee Six a couple years ago and my wife is now pushing me to buy another airplane. The choices (on paper at least) to fit my likely trips and family profile seem to come down to either a retractable Piper Saratoga or an A36. I'm familiar with the Cherokee Six/Saratoga line but...

Any advice on transitioning to J-3 Cub?

What it is like to fly one? FUN! Lots and lots of fun! I've flown J-3's to Gulfstreams, and a lot of stuff in between, and IMHO, the J-3 is the funnest of all. (For fixed wing, that is; helos are a whole nother different batch of fun). My first CFI job was teaching in Cubs off a grass field in...

Flo's Restaurant at Chino (CA) Airport

Is there free transient parking for light aircraft near Flo's? Or do you have to use one of the FBO's and get stuck with ramp/parking fees? It has been over a decade since I was last there, used to be able to park almost right next to Flo's and walk about 100 feet to get to it...... but that...

Best Headset for GA & Helicopter Flying

All my professional helo flying was done with an issued helmet. But prior to that, while I was doing training for my Comm Helo add-on, I guess I was just "old school", never cared much for the ANR headsets ........ used my good ole David Clark headset and with an adapter, they were good for...

FS (maybe): 1979 Piper Cherokee Six PA32-300

Thinking of selling ...... I might want something smaller and faster. It's a 1979 Piper Cherokee Six 300, a tad over 3000TT, 1480 SMOH, 35 SPOH, original Collins MicroLine panel, King DME, no GPS, paint is 9/10 (done in 2008), interior is probably about 23 years old, 5/10. This is the last year...

    Favorite Christmas song (s)

Flying the Cherokee SIX, any hints/tips?

The Cherokee Six is a great airplane. My very first 135 job over 40 years ago was flying cargo - usually auto parts - in a Cherokee Six all over the northeast part of the USA. I always knew it would make a nice family airplane, and I bought a 1979 PA32-300 over 20 years ago. Still have it, have...

    Fold-able (to flat) IFR Hood

That's pretty simple, and would probably work just fine. I suggested to my kids to get me one of those five dollar thebestIFRhoods for Christmas. If I get coal instead, I think I will just splurge and go ahead and buy one of those five dollar folding hoods for myself. Thanks again for the ideas...

    Fold-able (to flat) IFR Hood

Yes, Aunt Peggy, that's it! Wish I could find mine! While some of the items mentioned in the other replies work fine, the advantage of that green Jepp hood is that it folds flat, and that's what I want. Know where I can get one? I think the closest one that I have seen mentioned here is...

    Fold-able (to flat) IFR Hood

Once upon a time, I had a really useful foldable IFR hood. It was made out of some sort of stiffened - but still pretty thin - laminated green cardboard material, had Jeppesen printed on it (IIRC) and folded flat into thirds. It had a thin elastic band on it, to go around the back of your...
