Limits of operating an aircraft when not current

I am not current (late by a few months on my FR), but my medical is valid. I want to go and start up my plane and taxi it around. I am guessing that is legal since I don't plane to TO. What about a fast taxi on the runway?

Penalty for failure to close flight plan

I've been listening to some IFR panel discussions and one of the controllers said that they got very irritated when pilots landing at uncontrolled airports failed to close flight plans, or took their good sweet time closing them. What are the penalties or sanctions involved? The one...

Does new endorsement reset review date?

Fellow pilots: I had my review and then two months later received a complex endorsement. Does the endorsement count as a flight review, thus resetting the due date for the next one? TIA

    Port-a-Cool System Cool Shirt

I searched, if this has been discussed mea culpa and please point me to the thread. I came across a "Pilot Cooling System" that consists of a t-shirt fitted with tubing and a "CFC-free" aerosol coolant that you spray into the shirt as needed. The site (www.pilotcooling.com) claims 2-3 hours...

    Engine compartment cable ties

I have found a number of cable ties in my engine compartment (IO-360-A1A) that secure the leads coming out of the CHT probes to the spark plug wires. I have wondered about flammability issues and have not had a need to remove one yet, but if I do, what is the recommended replacement? I have...

FAA administrator says GA is the "fun flying" Federal Aviation Administration Administrator Randy Babbitt spoke at the Sun 'n Fun Fly-In over the weekend. IFR training questions

The FAR states: The only required navigational equipment is that equipment appropriate to the ground facilities being used. So, does this mean that you could have an IFR certified aircraft (nav equipment is not on the MEL), have an IFR ticket, file an IFR flight plan, and then do the...

    VOR troubleshooting

I have a KX-170B driving a KI-209. In January, while I was doing familiarization training on my plane, my instructor tuned it to the VOT at KSAT and found it off by around 10 degrees. My KX-155 drives a cheaper KI-201C and it is right on the money. I recently retested the two and now find that...

    Battery mats and box painting

I had a little hangar time this weekend with my baby and found some crusty groady corrosion powder in the battery box. It was not pathologic; i.e., punched through or anything, so I scraped it off and vacuumed it all out, cleaned the battery terminals, topped off the charge, etc. Now I am...

    Thinking like an IFR pilot...

I am hoping (WX!!) to head out west on Saturday to a fly-in at an airport about 250 nm away. I'll be leaving a controlled airport, flying over a Class B, possibly in it, over a busy Class C with the final destination a little "out in the middle of nowhere" muni. I had a 20 year hiatus from...

    IFR training questions

These questions may have been answered here, but I could not find them. So, here goes: (d) Aeronautical experience for the instrument-airplane rating. A person who applies for an instrument-airplane rating must have logged: (1) Fifty hours of cross country flight time as pilot in command...
