    3-blade vs. 2-blade prop (Cessna 182)

The highest performance control line model airplanes all run counterbalanced single blade props turning insanely high RPM (sometimes 40k+ rpm).

Airventure airshow speed an altitude limits.. What are they?

Just kind of curious, aside from breaking the sound barrier, is there a speed limit? I.e. is everyone doing low passes down the runway going as fast as they are willing to push the engines? Where does the airshow airspace extend?

    Falfurias, TX airport - curious

Any reason for the number of expensive business jets, complete lack of pistons, at this small town airport? http://maps.google.com/maps?gl=us&sll=27.207334,-98.122216&sspn=0.006295,0.006295&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=&ll=27.20788,-98.122378&spn=0.00261,0.007328&t=h&z=18

Full scale biplane takes out giant scale R/C at event

Wow. Think a bit more about it. Models don't normally fly at real airports. Model airplanes are normally flown at model airplane fields. This was by invitation of the fly-in organizer, not because he just showed up and started hovering over the runway trying to impress the crowd. I've flown...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3GHqMObjcM The whole event looks really fubar with active full scale landings while models on the runway.

Thoughts on FAA/EAA's response to Jack Roush's Accident

The show must go on, yes. That doesn't mean that after years and years of deaths that people don't get sick of it. I'll also add, A single fatal midair that causes injury on the ground doesn't ever do any good for our public image. You can look at the race Mustang that crashed and killed a...

A question for gun and business owners

In TX, you can have an unconcealed handgun on any private property where you are invited. This includes your home, business, friend's house/property, job if it's ok with your employer (i.e. gun store ;) etc. You can have a pistol in your car as long as it's concealed. Rifles & Shotguns are much...

    Autopilot lesson learned

It was definitely a mistake on my part. Plane was climbing out way faster than it could sustain when I engaged it. I didn't think to see what VS it was trying to hold. Normally I engage it when level and then play with the VS or ALT settings.

    Autopilot lesson learned

I was just again reading about the Colgan accident and how they allowed the autopilot to take them to the edge. When it disco'ed is when they got into trouble. Ron/Azure: It's a bendix/king KAP140, and 2axis is the default mode. Here's the first step on the quick guide: 1. To activate the...

    Autopilot lesson learned

I hit the "AP" button and by default it turned on ROL and VS. I didn't do anything else that I know of. ETA: that appears to be the default behavior for this model. IIRC is a bendixking.
