    CFI headwind mins

My thought exactly. Other than ground taxi, not sure what the risk is. We often fly in winds stronger than that the higher we cruise with absolutely no problems.......

    CFI headwind mins

Yeah, their personal no go limits! We've significantly lower limits for our students.

    CFI headwind mins

Was chatting to a few CFIs about their personal no-go headwind limitations. Some remarked that they won't fly when the headwind is above 30 KTS. Curious as to what scenarios go into determining their limit. Personally, I'm more concerned about ground taxiing with a 30 KT wind, especially so...

    Confusing Tower Instruction

Got it, thx. I just assumed there would be a link between the “line up and wait” and the traffic. Especially considering that once I line up and wait, I’ve lost visibility to the traffic on final.

    Confusing Tower Instruction

Agree, but why would they want a line up and wait?

How do we (you) afford to fly?

Convinced the wife to let me get my CFI on the understanding that any subsequent flying expenses would be funded from my CFI earnings. Fair enough!

    Confusing Tower Instruction

Recently at KBED, I received the instruction “Line up and wait 23, traffic is a warrior on a right base for a 2.5 mile final”. Question is, if only 23 was active at the time, why is traffic on a right base a concern for me? Surely, tower would want a no-delay take-off, no?

Redbird FMX sim & Logbook time

I know that I’m able to log time for shooting approaches in the Redbird FMX simulator and that PPL students can log up to 2.5 hours towards their PPL. Question is, as an CFI, can I log the 2.5 hours as instructor time too when instructing my student in the sim? Cheers, Darren

    Weather minimums for flight instruction

Just started CFI training and was reflecting back on some of the weather that my primary CFI took me up in for my first 20 hours. Curious, what minimums do you CFIs use for new students? Does that change once they solo or get more experience? Daz

    Conditions for a commercial checkride

I have a checkride this week and the conditions are looking like max crosswind gusts 12kts and ceilings of 2-3k. Wondering what others would do regarding whether to cancel or not. I don’t want to screw up the power off 180. Daz

    Struggling with lazy 8s

Thanks Jim, very helpful. My instructor does the exact same as your instructor too. Sounds like I need to spend a little more time actually looking outside the window and trying to fly the path approach as opposed to staring at the instruments to hit the targets.

    Struggling with lazy 8s

Guys, really struggling to pull this together and would appreciate thoughts on how you begun to practice this. I’m thinking that I should just try to hit certain targets at each point and then just try to smooth out the transition to each target. Straight from the handbook shows 15 degrees at...

    Winter flying and frost

Guys - my airplane is tied down outside during the NE winter. Just wondering what folks use to remove frost/ice from wings. Is there any de-ice solution or something that is safe to use? Just wondering.........

Which plane would you recommend for PPL?

I had this very conversation with my CFII during a recent commercial lesson. We concluded a tail dragged from a short field airport would probably result in the best stick and rudder flight skills.
