    Whistling noise in IMC?

I had a loud whistle in my 182rg. I tried several things to isolate the problem. Mine ended up being the rough tape on the steps and wing spar to gain access to the top of the wing. Air would get underneath some of the tape and cause it to whistle. Once I took it off and used paint, instead...

    Aviation Books

Thanks, I looked for a thread before posting. I will dig a bit deeper. Thanks for the input!

    Aviation Books

Does anybody have any recommendations on good aviation books? I have read The Killing Zone, 81 lessons, a few Richard Collins and weather books. Any must-reads or particularly enjoyable books about aviation? I am looking to build a reading list for the winter months.

    Flying Magazine article

You are probably right. I wasn't asserting that King is for the defund the police movement, but that Flying magazine was using it for their gain. The triggering, cancel culture stuff makes me sick, but here I am triggering and cancelling. This was the feedback I needed. Thanks,

Yes, that is what I was saying. If you want to accuse me of wanting to shoot you, you can post whatever you want. Have fun!

Could you point me to where I asserted that? I would like to edit it if it came across that way.

That is a great point. The process ends with people in handcuffs. The police are trained to get the occupants into custody, then sort it out once everybody is safe. Rarely do people in stolen vehicles say they know it is stolen. It took the police a bit of time to figure out that the...

    Flying Magazine article

I was triggered. I am hoping to get some feedback from the aviation community. I read an article written by John King (of King Schools) in the September 2021 issue of Flying magazine. In this article, John recounts a story where he was pulled out of his airplane in CA by police at gunpoint...

    G1000 vs. G500txi

I currently have a 1982 Cessna 182rg with a G500txi and Garmin 750. I am considering "upgrading" to a newer Turbo 182 with a WAAS G1000, but not the nxi version of the G1000. It seems the major difference is no flight stream in the G1000, along with a slower processor and lower screen...

Flight following and Class Charlie airspace

So on the return trip through the Class B, I would need them to specifically say I am cleared through the Bravo?

Flight following and Class Charlie airspace

Yesterday, I flew VFR from KMKC (Downtown Kansas City (in Class D, under KMCI Class B airspace)) to KMLE (Millard, NE), which is just outside of Omaha's Class C airspace. I would need to breach the Class C, if I was going direct, or navigate around it. I get flight following when I leave...

    Tug, robot, or 4 wheeler?

I am looking to buy a means of getting my plane in and out of the hanger. I started looking at tugs and robots, but for the cost it almost seems comparable to a 4 wheeler. The 4 wheeler seems to have other advantages (use away from hanger, ability to tow to gas pumps and save a start, etc.)...

Advice for new pilot flying into Colorado Springs

My home base is KMKC (Kansas City), and I am planning on flying into KCOS (Colorado Springs) next week. I got my PPL last November and have just been flying locally (<150 NM) getting used to my airplane (185 total hours). As I am flight planning for next week, it looks like KCOS is pretty...

    SwitchBox Control (remote engine heater)

Not sure if you have WiFi in your hanger, but I used an Amazon Smart plug (cost $24). I plug an extension cord into the plug, and then to the heater on the plane. I just turn the plug on through the Alexa app. Haven't had any issues, but you need Wifi or a hotspot in your hanger for it to work.

Question about checking oil in 1982 Cessna 182rg

When I use the dipstick to check the oil after the airplane has sat for a few days, the level shows just above 5 quarts. When I wipe it clean and recheck, it will show 8 quarts every time I check it there after. I thought maybe the dipstick was coming out after flight and maybe the engine was...

    Tow bar for Cessna 182

I recently purchased a Cessna 182, and am finding that using the factory tow bar to push the aircraft back into the hanger by myself seems impossible. Aircraft Spruce sells a tow bar extension, but I am curious if this really helps or if some sort of mechanical tug is really the only option...
