    What the actual...

Top comment - This is why we have standard phraseology. Controller couldn’t give him a deviation, because he knew it was his fault. I do not feel this controller is at fault for anything. I think the pilot needs some more training and that tower handled it well. Am I wrong for feeling that way?

McClellan-Palomar Airport (KCRQ) Encina Smokestack go bye bye.

Demo crews are prepping the smokestack for demolition in 2021. The skyline is going to look weird without it. Anyone else hate this idea? ATC is always using it, I don't think I've ever flown without hearing it referenced at least once. I wonder how much of a change it will be for them. It...

Supplies Over the Skies (Operation SOS)

Pretty neat. No idea where the supplies are coming from. Awesome way to build time though! https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/491575-16-year-old-pilot-flies-coronavirus-supples-to-hospitals-in

    Antonov An-2 crash

    Slime in flight bag.

I loved this $100 headset. Not so much anymore. Hopefully my giant PPL flight bag will fit in the washing machine, it's a bit cold out to hit the car wash.

    BFR PIC?

I'm a PPL that hasn't flown in the preceding 90 days and my last flight review was one year ago. I moved, so I do not have access to an airplane to knock out three landings before my next flight which is a BFR/checkout ride with a DPE. I would not log this flight review as PIC time, correct?

    Something broke

Funny that the gusts are lower than the wind itself. Anyone else ever see this kind of thing reported? Neighboring airports showed 6-7 kt winds.

    Cessna rolling through border patrol

When I pulled up the border patrol dude wanted to know what was so funny. The dash cam timezone is -1 and it was late. We were both nordo.

    $140 VR HMD

Assuming you have a decent computer, you can get the Lenovo Explorer VR system for $140 at Walmart right now. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lenovo-Explorer-Windows-Mixed-Reality-Headset-Black-G0A20001WW/751420233 I've used PSVR, Oculus and Vive standard and Pro. The Lenovo isn't perfect but at...

Why do people argue glass vs steam?

I'm at the airport today and a CFI is ramming the 'ol "you must fly steam" speech. I get it, that's how I started. It has obvious benefits. Why choose one or the other. Wouldn't the best option be glass with some backup steam gauges? What's so bad about that? You get BOTH! I get home and look...

    Airplane sitting in parking lot

It's just sitting there... https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2018/11/01/small-plane-pacific-palisades-parking-lot/ Here's a pic a friend took. It seems strange nobody is around it. You can walk right up to it.

    Flying with the Fusion 360

The data overlay was extracted from the Fusion 360 video and rendered with RaceRender. The speed is MPH and about as accurate as any cheap GPS. Anyway, I thought it was cool. Best viewed on mobile or VR HMD.

    2 way bluetooth dongle

I see there are a lot of bluetooth options for audio. Does anyone know of an adapter that does both audio and microphone with wired output? This would be strictly ICS, no PTT for the radio is needed, for one crewmember wearing a bluetooth headset.

    Full home sim cockpit completed

All you need is pitot heat :) Happy Easter, and April Fools. It's pretty cool you can interface microcontrollers with flight sims. I don't plan on building a home sim but had fun playing around with ArdSimX. http://www.simvim.com/ardsimx/

    Pax right turning tendency

I take people flying, and when they have the controls they tend to put us in a slight bank to the right. This has been happening for years, and lately is starting to bug me. I have a few hours in the right seat, and didn't notice anything obvious, but that was after many hours of instruction...

    Instrument Flying Made Easy Book

I've been told I should get the book entitled Instrument Flying Made Easy. It's $64 on Amazon, which isn't bad but if there is a digital version that is just as good I'd prefer that. Any ideas on similar books? Or does anyone have one laying around they'd like to sell?

    Smart watch

I've never had one. I use Foreflight but only as a backup to a G1000 with XM weather. I don't bother mounting the iPad anymore, it stays in the back with my flight bag. I have the iPad mini 4 and iPhone 6S. Apple watch doesn't seem worth the cost. Anyone find a less cost alternative with any...

    Time for Digital Logbook

I was in a voluntary evac zone for fires in Socal. I decided to run a little drill. Pack up stuff in the car and be prepared. The next day things settled down, and I unpacked the car. My flight bag was one of the last things to come back in the house, and I decided to organize it. What do you...
