    Adding Boots

Looking at purchasing a PA34 Seneca II that does not have boots. Does anyone know how difficult it would be to add boots, or has anyone added boots to a plane that hasn't been plumbed? Thanks.

Seneca vs Baron 55 Operating Cost

I am looking to purchase a twin, and I am curious if there are any Seneca II/III and B55 Baron owners on here that can share what their average hourly cost is to operate? Including insurance, hangar, maintenance, etc. I fly around 100 hours a year. I hear the Barons are closer to $500/hr?

    Does this plane exist?

Helping a friend and his wife find a plane to meet their family's requirements and it has been a real struggle. Looking for a twin 1980's and newer. We've flown a Seneca III, 1986 Baron 58, and Cessna 310R. The perfect plane would be a Seneca cabin with IO-550's and 200 gallons with known ice...

SIC Type Rating, what to expect?

I’m heading to CAE to get an SIC type and I’m curious what I should expect when I get there? Do I need to have anything memorized before I get there? Or is the SIC type a show up and pass kind of thing?

    Question about Hudson SFRA TFR

Regarding the Trump Tower TFR that extends over the hudson, when north bound, are we allowed to fly through the TFR as long as we're within the SFRA exclusion zone? Or are we supposed to fly towards oncoming traffic and go around it? Thanks.

    Engine Pre-heat

So I have a new IO-360 in my Arrow and I've been breaking it in. I'm thinking about taking it to Chicago for a day trip but the temperatures are expected to be in the low 30's. I would estimate it would be out on the ramp for about 12 hours. I have no way to pre-heat it obviously... do I need to...

    New IO-360 Break In

Just had a new IO-360 installed in my Cherokee Arrow. Can anyone please tell me how to break the engine in? The only thing the mechanic said was “run in hard for 10 hours, change the oil, run it hard for 25 hours, change the oil, and you’re done” But I feel like there should be more specifics...

    Single Piece Panel

I want to put a single piece panel in my plane. The local avionics shop quoted me $15k and that just seems higher than it should be. They said they order the panel from a vendor and they install it. Can anyone please recommend a shop for doing the single piece panel? The aircraft is a PA28...

    Elliptical vs Square Prop Tip?

Looking at different propeller options.. I did a google search but wanted to ask the experts here at POA. . 1) Is there a benefit to having an elliptical (round) vs square propeller tip? 2) Would it be worth adding a 3 blade propeller to my Piper Arrow III instead of 2? 3) Someone mentioned a...

    Time for an Eng. Overhaul?

I have a Lyc IO-360 with 1400 hours SMOH. I was told by the shop that there is wear on the cam lobe inside the crank case and I need to replace the cam shaft. After talking to the shop, I have 2 choices... First, I can do a complete engine overhaul. Second is to split the shell and have a new...

Complying with an AD via SB?

I'm looking through the logbook of an aircraft that I'm interested in purchasing. In the very front of the book is a section for AD's that can be found in the logbook if you keep flipping. For example, the very first AD in the AD section is related to the fuel system, and if i keep flipping I...

    Engine Stutter on Approach

I was flying a Piper Arrow tonight, and around 2,000' AGL (3,000' MSL) the engine stuttered momentarily. My initial thought was I accidentally brought the mixture to cut off, but it was still running and the vibrations were very pronounced as well. I was doing about 24" MP/ 2400RPM and 11.5gph...

    Lycoming IO-390 Question

I heard the Mooney M20 E,F,J, and Cessna 177RG received an STC for the IO-390 back in 2009. I keep hearing talk about an IO-390 STC being "proposed" for the Arrow... Does anyone know if this is true or just another myth? I'd like to see an IO-390 in my arrow since the engine is coming up on TBO...

    Poll: Calling all Multi-Engine Pilots

I was taught in my multi-engine training to wait until reaching Vyse - blue line - before raising the gear. Last Week, I had the opportunity to fly in a king air and the pilot let me do the takeoff. At blue line I raised the gear and the pilot asks me "Why did you hesitate to raise the gear"...

    Scenario: Engine Failure on Takeoff

You're climbing at Vy and just passing 800' feet AGL when the engine starts shaking real bad and you've obviously had a loss of power. The checklist for our club's Arrow currently says in that situation you would maintain a safe airspeed, lower the gear, and shut down the engine. It makes no...

    Feathering Single Engine

Having a debate with some other pilots and I wanted to see what you all thought on here. I know piston singles can't be "feathered", but would it be beneficial to pull the blue lever back during an engine failure that way there's less drag? This is assuming it's done while there's still some oil...
