    Wingsuit crash

On one hand, I think that these guys are lunatics risking their lives for a thrill. I would never have what it takes to willingly put my life in that much danger. On the other hand, it's people such as these who are willing to push the envelope to extreme levels that advance technology for us to...

Will Medical Reform Get You Back In The Air?

Aside from the medical process itself, how will medical reform help you, or change the way you do things? Will it allow you to fly your GA plane again? Will it prompt you to sell your light sport plane? Will you be introducing people to flying?

    Too late for Medical Reform

One thing it will do is get grandpa back in the air for flights with his grandchildren. It could spark more interest. That could be a topic for another thread.

Third-Class Medical Reform Included In Defense Bill

Real, or not real? House approves $602B defense bill http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/05/19/house-approves-602b-defense-bill-despite-white-house-objections.html?intcmp=latestnews Is this the same bill that PBOR2 in attached to? Sounds like it's just waiting for the president to veto it...

My gyroscope says the world is Flat

I've heard about flat earthers, but never looked into it. Where do they say the edge is, and do they have pictures? I would love to see it.

    Long flight altitude?

This doesn't explain what keeps the plane from being upside down when it's on the bottom of the Earth. In an effort to keep my explanation easy for everyone to understand, I neglected to mention the other effect of the pitot tube and how we are able to effortlessly fly on the bottom of the...

    Long flight altitude?

The real answer lies in the problem of the curvature of the earth. Without adjusting for pi * Velocity over time, you will in fact have a straight line flight path. The problem with this is that eventually you will simply fly straight off the earth. Imagine the earth as a basketball. Now balance...

    PBOR2 .. cleared for takeoff?!

I'm curious about the "almost none" part of this quote. If I did the math correctly, he says there were roughly 100 medically related accidents. Almost none would be 1 or maybe 2 that could have been prevented by a medical. What were the incidents, and what was the flying status of the pilots...

    PBOR2 .. cleared for takeoff?!

What exactly does he mean when he says that new pilots will have to complete 1 FAA medical review? Does that mean a 3rd class medical?

    Medical Incapacitation: Sport vs. Private

I think I may have been misunderstood. Right now there's no way to say how many pilots are flying under sport rules, which his makes it difficult to come up with figures on the safety of flying without a medical. I think this has been discussed at length in various threads, and while there may...

    Medical Incapacitation: Sport vs. Private

It would seem that there's enough need for correlating statistics between native sport pilots and private pilots flying sport, that someone would suggest a rule change so that if a private pilot wanted to fly under sport rules after letting their medical expire, they would need to state it...

Agreed, but ban too soon and it looks like you ban for making grandpa mad, like Cowboy's post about getting banned from the solar site. There's a line between being combative, and arguing a point. Maintaining a position on a matter and not agreeing with a long time member isn't being combative...

Currently, if I'm not mistaken, you're not able to fly into Canada with a sport pilot rating due to not having a medical. I think that you're limited in which islands in the Caribbean you can visit also. I wonder how those rules will change of half of GA doesn't have medicals.

I agree with what others have said already. The real reason for doing away with the third class medical is that it is unnecessary and doesn't make flying safer. You only have to look as far as the sport pilot experiment. To see if the 3rd class medical makes flying safer, we just need to compare...
