Anyone here ever paint your own airplane?

I'm sure some of you have. Probably even some pro's on here. My co-owner and I have tossed around the idea of stripping and repainting our 172 this upcoming winter. The paint (what's left of it) on our 66 G model is pretty rough. Just don't want to get in over our heads. I do know its a LOT of...

    How to handle this situation?

THANK YOU!!! Gary, I was quite surprised and bummed to see most of the responses I got to this post. Especially like I was being a drama queen making a big deal out of nothing and most everyone brushing it off like its no big deal. And pointing the finger at me like I am the problem. Some people...

    How to handle this situation?

Any burned valves as the critics on here suggest? :)

    How to handle this situation?

Yep exactly. And why would i not be willing to help him, even if it was coming out of strictly his pocket and not mine? Ya know, there is truly no way to be right with the opinions on here lol.

    How to handle this situation?

Yes, this has ACTUALLY happened a few times. The first time, he called me telling me he thought we had a bad mag and cancelled his flight and wanted me to come check it out. I used the the procedure from the POH, a full power run up to clear the plugs, and that resolved it. I then spoke with my...

    How to handle this situation?

Alright guys, first let me say I obviously came off the wrong way in sounding petty/judgmental/over-critical in my OP and "furious" was definitely a wrong choice of word. I guess I was just kind of shocked at the amount of mistakes and what seemed to me sloppy, especially out of a newly minted...

Haha no kidding. He's a pretty quiet, mellow guy.

    How to handle this situation?

OK, here's a little background first: I recently purchased a 172 with a co-owner that is a guy I have known for several years. He is a newly minted pilot with around 100 hours with most of his training in a Cherokee, but transitioned to a 172 near the end of his training. Myself, I have had my...

Anyone have experience with dropping objects? (on purpose ;) )

Ohh shoot, forgot the disclaimer...."No animals, ground personnel, pilots, passengers, vehicles, or structures were harmed during this exercise." We all went home safe :)

Anyone have experience with dropping objects? (on purpose ;) )

Well, good news! Had some time to go make some drops and test some techniques on Tuesday and I'd consider it successful! This was my second drop...5 pound flour bad, 65 knots @ 300 ft AGL. Not too shabby. These were not moved...we have consistency :) Now just to figure out how to...

Anyone have experience with dropping objects? (on purpose ;) )

Doggtyred I'm not here to debate your opinion on this. I was merely looking for input on the actual dropping of objects (something many pilots do and is not unlawful or unsafe if the proper precautions are taken) and curious as to the hazard using a parachute system would make. But as...

Anyone have experience with dropping objects? (on purpose ;) )

No need to be negative and have an "I told you so" attitude. That's not helpful. I never discounted the opinions of those guys. But I did post here looking for input on dropping items, not the specifics of my mission and risk assessment. That will have to be a call I make on the individual needs...

Thank you guys for the helpful feedback. I'll update with the outcome of upcoming tests :)

Anyone have experience with dropping objects? (on purpose ;) )

OK that last line made me laugh. But in all seriousness I do understand and agree...mostly. Every mission is different with a hundred different circumstances, so I would say it depends on the individual case and conditions to decide if it is necessary. Most often, probably not practical...

Anyone have experience with dropping objects? (on purpose ;) )

I fly for the local Sherriff's Office Search and Rescue and as part of our mission they would like me to be able to drop a care package to "found persons" when awaiting rescue from our ground troops. Such as a small bag or box consisting of a bottle of water, meal bar, 2 way radio, instructions...

    Skydive plane Mid-air

That I did not know, but seems like a good idea and definitely paid off in this case.

    Skydive plane Mid-air

Anyone else surprised at the fact that the pilot himself had a chute on? Definitly turned out being a good thing he did, but not standard practice. I was also surprised how easily the wings came off the 182...looked like a holywood scene. Glad everyone made it out alive!

    Daily Pic

Pic I snapped of my buddy's Husky while flying the Cherokee 180 on a short hop from KBAM to KEKO. My first air-to-air pic and formation flying experience...I loved it! Sure takes a lot of constant adjustments to hold position. And btw the camera is very deceiving in the distance department :)

    Successful Search And Rescue Mission

That certainly would be nice for several factors, including the added range/reception from an external antenna and the cleaning up of all the cords! I have about 10 feet of cord splayed across my lap for now lol. But as far as safety goes I think my current setup pretty much covers that. I plug...
