Plane Crash in CT - intentional?

@James331, James. Hmmm, sounds familiar. Seems like I remember seeing that name somewhere before....Oh yes, now I remember. Jesus' brother and apostle. Well James331, since youre one of those with a Christian name, does that mean????

Same as the dead pax/students name, doesn't mean chit

Well if you want to get into it, the crusades, witch trials, and nearly all of the most elaborate, sadistic, perverted and sinister torture and death mechanisms were invented by Christians.

Both the christians and the muslems have some major issues with folks who don't...well drink from the same water cooler.

Again, I'd wager it was a MX, gas, or pilotage issue.

This just doesn't add up for this to be a guy trying to off himself, or kamikaze, being he is already a pilot, and his alleged target wouldn't have brought much attention from the masses who have no idea what/who P&W is, plus bringing a CFI along who doesn't want to die, and will fight to life, who's sitting right next to you with his own controls, yeah, not buying it.

I have no idea what actually happened here and I am not speculating.

But on the issue of a student intentionally crashing I am aware of a previous incident (not involving the middle east)
Local FBO owner/CFI/farmer was flying with a student who had was at the point of doing the touch and go circuits that CFI's all know and love. Two guys in a C150. Coming over the fence for another of the circuit when the student suddenly rams the yoke hard forward and holds it there. This is like 100 feet up. CFI yells and jerks back on the yoke. The student has his arms straight out and pushing with all his strength. CFI tells me by then he could count the individual blades of grass sticking up through the cracks in the runway.
CFI is a big guy, six and a half feet of solid farmer muscle and he shoves his legs straight out as best he can and simply does a 400 pound arm curl overpowering the student, bringing the yoke back into his chest yanking the nose up, the plane hits one second later with a huge bang and carroms back into the air (he said it felt like 20 feet) and then just drops to the concrete with a second crash and rolls a few dozen yards to a stop. The student opens the door, gets out, walks away and he never saw him again.
He says to this day that it was a suicide attempt and if he had not been a big guy and in good shape from throwing seed bags and such they would have died.
He needs to learn about the elbow to the throat method...

The CFI just said "it was intentional" - not that it was the student who did it.

Could have been the CFI crashing the plane for all we know.

Maybe he was upset with the student for hosing down the engines with water...

Follow the argument James. You said that when you hear a Christian name, it makes you "feel" like these type incidents are intentional. I pointed out that you have a Christian name. Now you say that it means nothing, which was my initial point. So, your post is nonsense. It's easy to throw stones when you're used to not having them thrown back at you.

Guys, calm down, please lay off the terrorist theories for now.

We REALLY need to wait for an official source of the pilot's statement. NTSB would be my choice. The media can say a lot of c*ap that makes no sense.
I myself am waiting until NTSB issue its preliminary report, hopefully with some input from the surviving pilot.

WASHINGTON — The National Transportation Safety Board’s initial investigation of Tuesday’s aircraft crash in East Hartford, Connecticut, indicates the crash is the result of an intentional act.

In light of that information and in accordance with established procedures the NTSB is in the process of transferring the lead for the investigation from NTSB to the FBI.

The NTSB stands ready to support the FBI’s investigation should a request be made for agency expertise.

Well, I wouldn't expect a lengthy NTSB report now that the FBI is in charge of this investigation. The FBI typically wouldn't take the lead on an aircraft crash that wasn't criminal in some way (see: Dude who crashed into IRS building and the September 11th attacks)

I don't think my SJS theory isn't so out of line.

The expert has spoken on liturgical matters, everyone else STFU.

Mental illness? Suicide by airplane? It would not be the first time.

You have to be a real douche bag to want to take someone else with you, just saying. It will be interesting to hear what the CFI has to say.

IIRC, there are two big runways at the P&W plant across the river from HFD. Used to be a real cause of confusion for pilots unfamiliar, back in the day.

The runways are closed now, but I believe they are still there.

Where did I say I was an "expert"?

What did I say which was false?

I see my sarcasm and comparisons on rushing to judgement based on silly point information, like name, were lost on you.

I'm sure the FBI will get to the bottom of this, they have proven to be fair and unbias......uh well, I'm sure they'll do what it is they do ;)

As long as we're speculating...

Or, CFI f---ed the pooch, and rather than face action, saw a way to make it the "fault" of the deceased student...

We had a serious injury (car) crash where the boyfriend shoved his unconscious, critically injured girlfriend into the driver's seat because he didn't have a license...
Dead men tell no tales.

No but I did hear-
'Being a twin engine aircraft, that means there are 2 sets of controls" :D

Two, count 'em, TWO ailerons. Two flaps; two wings (horrors!). Two of those horizontal thingies sticking out either side of the tail. And two pilots sitting in two seats with two yokes to handle all those extra controls.
Yeesh...:sigh:

Hey, I was just helping you out, you're welcome.

The runways are closed now, but I believe they are still there.

I lined up with one of those runways as a student on my long solo X-C while intending to land at HFD. Just as I noticed the "X" on the runway, tower advised me that I was lined up with the runway at the closed airport.

Hartford Courant is reporting the CFI and and student were arguing before the flight. Student said something about not wanting to fly that plane...

Dead men tell no tales.

I was thinking that too,

turns out the CFI was the owner of the flight school (and ATP and a dual citizen from Macedonia for what little that's worth), a "crazy" student would be a lot better cause for his school than the owner screwing up, killing a student, destroying a plane (insurance situation?), and causing a good amount property damage.

Jonathan Rucker said he was sitting at a picnic table behind a house on Colt Street when he heard the airplane suddenly go silent.

"I hear planes every day," he said. "I heard a plane, then I didn't hear anything. I looked up and the plane was just tipping over. It tipped to the left and dropped straight down. There was a loud bang, smoke and flame. It tipped to the left and just dropped like a rock."
Totally sounds like a stall / spin.

Well, they've ID'd the instructor as Arian Prevalla. According to this article, the "pair were arguing shortly before the plane crash after Freitekh told Prevella he did not want to fly the plane any longer."

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ng-one-person-injuring-three-intentional.html

ROFL... I love how modern media can find ANYTHING... the photo of the instructor shaking Bill Clinton's hand in that article... like... who cares? LOL...

(Although I will admit I have zero interest in ever standing still long enough for a politician of any sort to grab my hand and shake it like I'm a damned dog... go away...)

That article had all kind of random info and pictures. We'll know more once they recover black box from the Cessna.

That can mean many things. Maybe it was a POS. Maybe the instructor was an ahole. Maybe he was tired; English was neither guy's first language.

Ummm... It was a Piper Seminole, and it won't have any black box... :)

We really need a "joke" font on PoA.

Anyway, if they were arguing over flight controls while on final, more inclined to blame the crash on that than terrorism. Especially after seeing the student's facebook page... looks like he really did have a love of all things aviation. Terrorists learn to fly in order to execute malicious activity, not because they are passionate about planes.

We need a wall built to keep these Jordanians out of the US.

What black box would that be?
Just so you know....I don't know how this airplane is equipped, but some light aircraft -- particularly G1000 flight decks -- DO come with flight data "recorders," even if not required. Next time you're in one, see if the MFD has an SD chip in the upper slot.

It really is scary that this is the same media that reports these inaccuracies are the ones we rely on for our other news. I have found that anything they report that I have more than average knowledge of (Aviation, pharmacy, etc) are either exaggeration or outright inaccurate. Really crazy....

Anyways it makes more since that it is an argument not a terrorist related offence. Not sure why a terrorist would target such a random target.

However, as a pilot, how do let the cockpit go so bad and lose so much control of yourself that you crash is beyond me. I can't even imagine what that would be like.

Any instructors ever have a full out argument with a student while flying? I would figure an instructor would just try to take over and land at that point. Maybe he physically couldn't overcome the student I guess

Ahh, oops.

Or he was just depressed... when I read the quote "I don't want to land the plane" I was thinking "suicidal student", more than "terrorism"... neither of which sounds like a whole lot of "fun" for an aspiring CFI... hahah... oh goodie... it's bad enough they try to kill you when they're NOT trying to... :)
