At this price, I assume it is problematic beyond just engine time but some money saved up front might offer improvements. anyway, anyone familiar with this field ever see this plane? Or possibly if you are near by could take a peek in and see if it is something to run away from?

Not having a dog in this fight, and having never owned an airplane, take this with a grain of salt... How much do you have budgeted to update the panel, etc to what you, or more importantly the spousal unit would consider to be an acceptable level?

the panel is the part of the airplane I care at least about. I am VFR so all I really need is a radio.

I just spoke to the guy he said he bought it for his flight school but the school said their insurance was going to go up and they are just going to stick with 152 so he says he is selling it for what he bought it for just to get his money back.

He said 1 vor is inoperative and he is replacing it. He also said the directional gyro is not working. it sat for a few years pickled in Marvel Mystery Oil up in Maryland. They took the wings of to reseal the tanks and replaced All 4 cylinders with chrome cylinders. Some hail damage and no metal in the oil but it is due for an oil change so it can be checked....

Looks pretty dreamy if you ask me. Those short square wings look fast and fun.

Looks a deal....get the seller to agree to a PreBuy at Fletchair and a number of AMUs later you'll be the proud owner of a Tiger.
<edit> Googled the N number and looks like it might have spent some time in the FL keys. Eyes out for corrosion.

@Katamarino has very graciously offered to take a look this evening. I put him in contact w the seller. Im going to try and fly down Saturday if I can swing it.

Hey it's only 51 years young too. Not a bad price if prebuy checks out.

Personally, I wouldn't fly or _____ something as old as I.

All the instruments are pretty sun damaged. (The needle on the tachometer lol wow)
Many steel parts look pretty rusted.
Oil temp looks broke.
Radios work? They aren't worth anything.
If the seatbelts are original that are probably tougher/stiffer/harder than industrial cardboard

So basically, you're saying "Houston, we have a problem?"

or maybe he's saying "Hold that tiger.......hold that tiger"

The part of POA where we try to discourage airplane purchasing.....

Never understand that part.

The money to fix all of that stuff is factored in. I know it will provide me with lots of places to put cash and keep my mx busy. I just hope it can fly while all of that is going on.

Have you given FletchAir a call? Also, where is the "buy it now" button?

On a positive note, would give you an opportunity to turn wrenches and really get to know your machine

I've been looking at tigers and actually flew one a couple months ago. Fun plane to fly with a good speed and great fuel burn. Opening the canopy in flight is nice in a hot day

We have N1568R on the line at our flight school, I'm guessing they left the factory within days of each other.

The engine had a top OH 87 hours ago, I assume that means the bottom hasn't been touched in 1600 hours. Is that engine pretty much runout? Obviously it could motor on fine for another 1000 hours, but would the experts here assume it's done?

I assume the bottom will need to be done soon.

IIFC that year has the purple glue issue.. right? Something to look out for.

Depending on how many years ago that top OH was done. Plane looks like it has been sitting around for way too many years. It would be a miracle if that engine was even close to operable.

Don't forget to eat at Carl's BBQ when you are there. They have some of the best BBQ around! We fly in and eat all the time. I like Tigers and saw this bird sitting outside last week. It didn't look very pretty so I really didn't pay much attention.
