I don't believe Foreflight did this before, (though I admit I am not certain) but now, when I select a route previously approved by ATC and load it, FF puts in EVERY waypoint along that route. For example, if you select the airway route from KBFL to KLAS, there are 18 waypoints in FF's nav log, vs the 4 that define the route. Two of the waypoints are only 1nm apart! For the life of me, I cannot figure out a reason that anyone would need this many waypoints in a 1.5 hr flight, especially ones that are so close together.

Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

It's a decode airways setting, set it to bends only

There's a setting to only show waypoints at bends in the airway. Is that disabled for you?

Dude, you paying an obscene price for an app that claims to have support. Make them earn their money if there is something you do not understand.

Actually pretty cheap compared to buying charts ala carte if instrument rated and you travel.

Also their support is excellent they respond to questions and bugs within hours even on weekends...

Actually, they did. I sent in a complaint via the report a bug tool on their web interface. Got an answer just a few minutes after POA.

I guess some people have a different metric for "obscene price".

Personally, I've saved enough using Foreflight over IFR, VFR paper charts and approach plate books to pay for the iPad a couple times over.

Especially if you got your iPad for free ;)

But yeah, I got nothing bad to say about foreflight, for the amount of feature and polish it has, it's worth the price.

No kidding. On a recent flight to Oshkosh that happened to occur over the chart change date for all the IFR charts and several VFR charts (meaning I'd need two sets - previous and next - of most charts for the trip), I priced it out as being about $70 in paper charts. That's including VFR sectionals, IFR Enroute Low charts, TPP books, and A/FDs. That was for one trip. Since I used Foreflight, though, there was no additional cost. Yes, I think any level of Foreflight is a bargain just in the charts alone, unless you only stay in one state. Let alone all the other features.

The most inexpensive app is $48 a year which includes IAP overlay. FF is 5x that price, yea, grossly over priced. Most of what you are paying goes to marketing and licensing to Garim for the GTX345.

I'm not sure what you're talking about.... or you know what you're talking about...

You can purchase Skycharts, which have IAP overlay for $48 a year. If you buy a new Garmin GTX 345 transponder, the only comparable apps are Garmin and FF. You are paying Garmin a license fee when you buy FF. You are also paying for a lot of marketing.

No you're not. ForeFlight works with a ton of ADSB receivers. They were tied to Stratus for a while, and I'm guessing actually Stratus paid for the privilege of exclusivity. Mine ties into a L3 Lynx. Garmin just yielded to pressure.

You are correct FF does, and Garmin could permit every app to use their transponders, but the only app they allow, other than pilot, is FF. FF is paying Garmin for that right and so are you.

Prove it then

Yep don't buy it if you don't find it worthwhile. Criticize it factually. Don't make stuff up.

If you wish to check out WingX site. They will tell you Garmin refused their request to use their coding. It is because FF is juicing them.

You're speculating. Good night.
