I trust my DPE with everything... honestly. He survived a mid-air.. why wouldn't I? But I also trust my mechanic with my life.. and I've trusted my instructors to show me the way and apparently they've done an OK job.

Maybe I trust to many?

I've known individuals in each career field I would not trust. So this is a hard decision.
But I need to find a good IA I can trust.

I trust everyone on that list to do their jobs competently and fairly and not to cheat me intentionally.

But I'm still preflighting my own airplane, inspecting the A&P's work, making sure everyone is billing me correctly, questioning my instructor if what he's doing doesn't make sense, etc, etc.

The point being, competent well meaning human beings can still screw up. I should know, I am one. Fortunately, most everyone I've met in the aviation community understands the questioning and double-checking without taking it as an insult or anything.
