Well, I never knew that. So I learned something new today.!!red hair like my grandfather
In case you haven't already figured it out, @eman1200 is the source and butt of many jokes on the board. One of which is his Mooney that he really wishes was a Cirrus
That sounds fine, I am all about safetyThe plane's safe. I just flew it back from annual inspection today from a Mooney Service Center here in NC, if that means anything these days. It even has bright, new LED blinky lights and new LED nav lights, which we all know is the most important thing. /s
As for the pilot being good and experienced, well, I'm certainly not the most experienced, but I'm still alive. I'm sure there's others in the Atlanta or southeast area that have way more experience and have a Mooney to show you.
Mooney airplanes are very safe. They have a steel tube frame around the passenger compartment not unlike a roll cage on a race car. The main wing spar is also overbuilt, especially on the earlier aircraft, before the weight ratings went up on later models. The wings remained the same, only the tests and paperwork were changed. That sounds fine, I am all about safety
There have been a couple of Mooney accidents since I've had mine (13 years now!) that have just blown me away - Including one where the plane was flown into the side of a mountain and everyone lived. Unbelievable. And I definitely noticed right away when I got it how stoutly built it is.Mooney airplanes are very safe. It really is kinda neat how different manufacturers made their design decisions. The wing, roll cage, and decision to use push/pull tubes for flight controls are pretty nice choices that increase safety and fun-factor.There have been a couple of Mooney accidents since I've had mine (13 years now!) that have just blown me away - Including one where the plane was flown into the side of a mountain and everyone lived. I live in Metro Atlanta now I used to live in Texas I moved back when I was 23 because I always felt like Georgia was my home. My Aunt Bobby his daughter used to live in Williamsburg Virginia I really loved her she was a smart and wise woman and had a lot of love like grandad as a matter of fact I can say about my aunt and my father they came from a long line of loveMooney airplanes are very safe. I live in Virginia but you or one of your family can fly with me any time. If you find yourself near Culpeper or Fredericksburg look me up.
I know Mooney planes are safe I just meant are they being maintained? Is the plane being maintained by the person flying it. And is the person flying it experienced. But if I'm going to fly in a small plane it's not going to be anything other than a Mooney!!There have been a couple of Mooney accidents since I've had mine (13 years now!) that have just blown me away - Including one where the plane was flown into the side of a mountain and everyone lived. I hope I answered your question. If you have any other just let me know!I'm interested in his "aviation origin story". Do you know what got him interested in aviation, and in designing airplanes? Was he a pilot first, or an engineer/designer?
Also, what did he enjoy doing that wasn't directly related to aviation? Any other hobbies?
William T. Comanche would be disappointed to hear this. But if I'm going to fly in a small plane it's not going to be anything other than a Mooney!!

Following this to see if it happens. I am local to you. Got to hear Bax speak and meet him briefly years ago, by coincidence, it was at a Mooney owners fly-in event. What if I met up with more than one pilot? I can bring some pictures and letters he and Bax wrote each other.
It would be an opportunity to see some cool stuff
Yes, give me a couple of days and I'll share what I have that he wrote downGot any stories of the early days of starting up the company? And any stories from the rougher days as they struggled to stay in business - like the Republic Steel days?
I would really like to meet more than one pilot and bring some stuff to share and show about my grandfather and y'all talked about there's a restaurant at McCallum and maybe we could just sit down and I can show you some things about my grandfather it would be a thrill for meFollowing this to see if it happens. Unfortunately, the nice C model that I used to fly out of PDK was sold.
