What did you do today?

Funny... that's how I change blades on the lawnmower. Forklifts are the best.
Second only to bridge cranes. Throw a pintle hitch in the truck and lift the arse end for a brake job.

I've got a small 1 ton I took out of a building that's in storage for when I build a workshop at the house to build an rv.

For sure. This building was engineered around an old 6-ton/45ft span Zenar bridge crane that came out of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel mill in WV. I need to fab all the hangers and get the thing hung. It's been sitting on dunnage outside the shop for a few years.

I sat around all day with my leg up. 6th day in a row. Only 15 more days. I'm already bored to death. I can only watch so much TV and read so much. New knee. I can walk around a little bit, but I have to keep my knee up most of the time and iced a lot of the time.

Gee, if only you had a guitar you could play....

Yeah. The problem is I'm supposed to keep my leg above my heart or at least close to that. That doesn't leave much room in my lap for a guitar--I can't play the guitar flat on my back (Jimi Hendrix I'm not). However, I feel like I'm getting to the point where I'm going to have to figure it out. My acoustic would be impossible as it's a dreadnought, but the Strat might work.

Took SWMBO to a dental appointment. She was in the chair for 3.5 hours, and is now home eating mashed potatoes, Ibuprofen, and hydrocodone. Poor gal is having a rough evening.

I feel her pain.

I hope her dentist/oral surgeon warned her that the discomfort/pain can peak 2 or 3 days after the procedure. And I hope she tolerates the Ibuprofen and hydrocodone well.

:) My grandfather drove a truck as a second job for one of the steel mills in the Wheeling/Follansbee area around the time of WW2. It's good to know that some of that old equipment is still being used.

1. Went to the gym. A new girl showed up to open. Found out yesterday was Shaggy's last day. I liked Shaggy. He normally let us in at fifteen till. The others usually don't open until five sharp, if they even show up. Today's girl opened late. I expect the door to be open when five o'clock hits. Not ten seconds after.

2. Dropped my old car off the Fastrak account and added the new one.

3. Debilitated over where to go for lunch. Probably the burger place.

Woke up just after midnight. Eyes hot. Watering yet dry. Feels like there's sand in them. Hurts to have them closed. Hurts more to open them. Walked with my eyes closed into the kitchen feeling my way around for a Ziploc bag to put some crushed ice and water in just to give my eyes relief.

Flash burn sucks.

Not picking on you, because I know that sucks...just pointing out that you know better, and that you and family are the only ones that care about the eyes. I'm saying that as somebody that avoids flash burns with my hobby stuff, but did have laser retina surgery, and it's kinda terrifying.

This is the understatement of the century. I made the mistake of thinking I’d be okay if I just closed my eyes and did little “spot” welds at a time on my cars exhaust when I was seventeen. Didn’t seem to be problem… until that night. NEVER again! I remember that as one of the most painful experiences of my life (And I have had some duesies, I will for life have some titanium plates on my jaw bone and over the course of life have had 14 different bone fractures).

Took some NYQuil for a really bad cold. Dose at 2230 and work up at 1130. Powerful stuff

Wasnt even the one welding. Had my safety glasses on which usually helps even though they're clear. Didn't think I was in a bad a spot. Was responding to an email, but just enough in my line of site apparently to get me.

I asked my Dad to teach me how to weld. I was 15 at the time. The Welder was a Lincon pipeline special. Wisconsin hand crank V4 engine. I had learned how to start it years back when Dad would weld and I was the "Helper Holder".
He said " if it will not strike and hold an arc. speed up the engine. If it melts through slow it down. So, with my newfound educational information I set out to weld the front bumper back on to my 35 Plymouth.
The bolts holding the bumper to frame mount had sheared off. So off to the shop I went. Fired up the welder , grabbed some 6013 rod and on to the project.
His helmet had a very dark lens, and I could not see where to strike the ark, so sans helmet I welded the spring steel bumper brackets to the frame mount.
Took it out for a test drive and of course, the bumper fell off.

It was a Sunday afternoon and movie night at the town's theater 10 miles away.
I Took my 51 Mercury to town and halfway through the movie I felt like some on had thrown a hand full of sand in my eyes.
A friend had to drive me home. It was the better part of a week before I could see . I spent two days in a dark bedroom before I could open my eyes for more than a moment.
Took more than a week before I could be outside with dark sunglasses on.
The good part of that learning lesson was my eyes healed and I didn't have to pick field rock for a week.

Guys, I have felt that pain before. This time wasn't that bad. But it'll happen again unfortunately.

I'm old school and use a shade 10 gold passive lens. I have a top of the line autodarkener, but even stick or Tig I use the fixed shade. The new guys complain they can't see when trying it. Hurry up and strike an arc. Problem solved.

Just because you are surrounded by nature doesn’t mean you have to look at it.

Have a good trip and bring back some of that warmth! More snow on the way here.

at least only one of the people in the foreground was on a "smart" device

Filled all the seats

Stopped for fuel at KMGR in southern GA...$4.55 full service and the friendliest staff ever. Really impressive operation down there. Finally get to put AL on my map as we're overnighting in Huntsville to visit the Saturn V.

Beats the **** out of driving.

Any more kiddoes, and you’ll need something with a turbine on it

Yeah, I've got turbine missions, but piston money. I was a little surprised we were able to still make it work; haven't had all of us in there since the engine debacle four years ago. 70lbs of baggage for 7 people is tough, but my wife is a magician. 70gal of gas puts us right at 3600.

We finally figured out how to stop new kids from showing up. Oldest is 17 and I'm trying to talk her into the air force so I can free up that seat ;)
