What did you do today?

Went to the aeropuerto to continue work on the condition inspection on the RV-6. Started it last weekend. Oil change complete, engine timing complete, air filter cleaned but not reinstalled. Aft pushrods and bellcranks inspected. Blah, blah, blah. Oh, and wingtip lenses polished and inside of canopy cleaned. Also, vacuumed the interior and did a thorough cleaning of everything I touched. Next: Reinstall air filter, conduct compression test, and more access panel removal to facilitate control linkage inspections. Sadly, the time change will make it difficult to accomplish anything after-work this week...

I finally ceded to winter, and pulled mine and my neighbor's boats out of the water. I came to terms with the fact it will continue to get colder this year, just like it has every year before. One of the saddest days of the year.

While I check the snow reports in CO, anticipating some of the best days of the year.

One of the saddest days of the year.

Au contraire!

The good flying weather in Florida is just beginning. The next six months or so is the best time to fly here. I lost all of last season while overhauling my engine, so I'm really looking forward to this year.

Went outside today to fill the bird feeders with seed, which I had stored outside the back door in a gasket sealed plastic container with about 25 lbs left. The plastic container... was... missing. After some searching I found it far in the back of the back yard, in a thicket of raspberry bushes. Judging from the hole chewed in the container and the teeth marks, it could have only been a bear. We get bears around our NY cabin all the time, but I've never seen or even heard of one near our CT house.

Temporarily patched the container with duct tape and put it back, set a bunch of empty beer cans on top to make noise, then went to walmart to buy a recording game camera, which I set up pointing at the container. We'll see what tonight brings...

If you get a pic like this, be sure to post it.

Snow is the one redeeming thing about winter. We do not get enough of it here to make living through the majority of winter worth it. We do try to travel to the Appalachian Mountains every winter and hurl ourselves down some snow covered hillsides. Colorado in the winter is amazing. I'd love to take my family there sometime, as my wife and child have never been.

I sadly looked out the window at the clouds and rain. Sadly, because I actually had time to go flying today.

Tomorrow will be clear and windy, gusting to about 25 - but I should be able to get up in the sky.

:) I'd suggest a metal can, and farther away from the house. Bears up this way may not be as smart as Yogi, but they're pretty smart. I didn't think we had any nearby until I was a work and got a call from GF who was standing outside, around mid morning, and had one walk right by her. No more than 15 feet away, just rumbling by. This is east of the Hudson from Albany, but still suburbia. Co workers have had them raid their bird feeders. Fast forward a couple of weeks and we're visiting her family in Torrington CT and having drinks on the back deck. We've heard there's a bear and cubs in the area, and sure enough one pops into their back yard, climbs a little tree and searches around, then wanders away. There are bears in these woods.

Remember, don’t eat it’s liver, other than that bears actually taste pretty good.. just saying…. Is there a hunting season for it in your area?

I didn't and won't vote, because (mercifully) there are no elections here. Not until May, so I'm sure the campaign ad blitz will start in January.

Vote early, vote often!

I like to vote on election Tuesday, in person. None of that early, mail-in crap. I like to put my ballot in the machine and hear the ding, and see the number of votes increase by 1. I like to exchange hellos and "how ya doin" with the workers. But, I live in a very rural area, we have 330 registered voters associated with our polling location, so there is never a line. If I lived where where the lines are stupid long, I would probably do things differently.

My wife is always asking why I don't vote early. I tell her it's because I want to give the candidates as much time as possible to show me why I shouldn't vote for them.

We need to be able to “vote for” or “vote against” on a ballot…any candidate who ends up with a negative number of votes can never run for anything again.

Voters need to wait for the October surprise. Or, campaigns need to move the October surprise up to middle September.

I wonder how many folks would run for political office if the winners were required to pick up roadside litter one day a week...

They’d gladly hand out water bottles to those picking up roadside litter long enough for a bit of news footage.

Working at the Poll location for the local elections.

Got trigger finger surgery yesterday on 2 fingers.
Ouch!
I was too numb to post yesterday. Today is stretching those fingers out.

Hand surgeon showed me my tendons before they sewed me up.

I’ll spare you the pictures lol

My wife had that on one finger. She was sore for about a month, but she would not do her finger work outs.

She is feeling much better now and her finger works almost as good as new.

And she chose to be out of it for the surgery...

I had trigger finger in my left pinkie about ten years ago. My doctor told me the only option was surgery. I began taking glucosomine condroitin and started seeing improvement in about six weeks. After two months it was completely resolved. No problem since.

I think sometimes the medical profession is a bit too quick to jump to the high dollar, complex solution.

2 years ago I had carpal tunnel surgery done both hands. And 4 trigger fingers done all at the same time.
It took about a year to recover totally except for one finger. It has to be stretched straight every day.
I went and saw my surgeon last month because of that and found out he was retiring Dec 1st.

My little finger and ring finger started locking a day after heavy work.

So I wanted them done before he retired and got on his schedule before Dec1. He is a really good dude.
This time I think it will be a much faster recovery.
I do know now you need to stretch them every hour all day long.
No pain no gain.

I only had a local and talked with the surgeon and nurses during the surgery. Drove myself to and from the surgery center.

I've had bouts of carpal tunnel syndrome off and on through the years, usually brought on by lots of computer time but also exacerbated by guitar. Always resolved with exercises and stretches, never did the surgery. At work I had a special ergonomic desk, chair, and keyboard, and they really did help.

There is in NY... When I last renewed my hunting and fishing license, it'd been a while since I've done that, it automatically came with a bear tag. That was a first for me. Most hunting around here is white tailed deer.

I've never had bear. Now I'm wondering if they taste a little like bird seed.

I saved an "American Coot", which i didn't know was a thing before today. Had to use Google lens to identify it. The dog was trying to eat it. It seemed to be mostly uninjured, but wasn't quite able to fly. Teresa took it up to the U of I vetmed wildlife clinic. Hopefully that gains me some avian karma points.

They have some crazy feet. @NealRomeoGolf mentioned that it probably thought my feet were weird too

Cut material for a production job on behalf of my friend who got hit on his Goldwing (he's recovering well, but nowhere near ready to return to work.) He had lined up an order for 20 aluminum sawhorses for a granite countertop company before his accident. Going to build a jig today and start melting metal.

Did some TIG welding on my plane's empennage with the mobile Tacoma rig. Assembled a Feiko Speedmaster on a quartz movement.

Flew a little bit, tail didn't fall off.

What did you use to cut the aluminum?
