What did you do today?

I did say legend. Buddy has a wedding in Dawsonville Georgia. So I called up Awesome Bill for a ppr.

If you've never been, check out the racing museum in Dawsonville.

Cool little town. There used to be old racecars parked all over town, but I haven't been there for a few years now.

Legend says: The local police banned Bill Elliott from driving through Dawsonville because he was always speeding. So he got licensed as a helicopter pilot and flew it between his house and his car dealership.

Seems like building from scratch would probably have been easier at this point

I re- mounted the shank that fell off my ripper last night with two come-alongs and a 12lb sledge and ordered new tires and wheels for it. Id really like to go a year without a wheel falling off something.

Once that was done and my buddy Dale came down to run it for the evening, I got some shop therapy time building a flap, which is WAY more fun than riveting wing skins on.

Come alongs are finger pinching m-fers. Get a lever hoist and don't look back.

Was reminded of one of my favorite tunes.

Here's to everyone keeping the wheels on unless removed on purpose.

For sure. It's becoming the EZGO of Theseus.
What vintage? It looks a lot like my 1982 model which I've been wrenching on.
Finished up a simple panel for it and wired it up tonight! I might put forward, reverse, and neutral indicator lights in the panel but that's more work than just a reverse indicator light (microswitch is already there). With that and tail lights in place I might disable the reverse beeper. Next up is decals.

It's a 1988 gas model, but nothing original is left except maybe the steering column and part of the frame.

Roughly the same vintage my parents let me drive around the shop to get the mail. Located on a 4 lane highway... When I was 3! The governor was obviously removed. I couldn't reach the pedals so I had to stand up to drive it.

CPS would be called if someone let their kid do that today

Putting in a new driveway and drain at the shop. Uncle hit a boulder the size of a Volkswagen. Borrowed a breaker from next door for my skid steer to break it up enough to get to grade. IMG_2333.jpegIMG_2332.jpeg

Stopped overnight en route to Gulf Shores. While @Ted may go big, I go small. Maybe tiny even.

Did you end up buying a camper, or is that a rented setup? I'm not around much anymore so I may have missed.

I love our bus, but there are times that something that big gets annoying. We spent a month on the road this summer, and nearly every campsite (there were a lot... we don't stay anywhere very long) was an episode of "Can Ted fit the Prevost in way too small of a spot with poor access?" Spots like your picture were rare. Of the 5k miles we drove (and by "we drove" I mean "I drove, everyone else sat and relaxed") about 3,000 of them were mountain and/or windy 2-lane roads. I normally love those kinds of roads, but they become less fun in the Prevost.

So, nothing wrong with going small!

I must confess, this year I got way too invested in the Mariners. Their run invoked memories of my father and sitting with him in the Kingdome with 5000 others.
Same with me and the Brewers. The last time the Brew Crew made it to the world series, I was 8 years old and completely unaware (I didn't come from a very sporty family, and we didn't even own a TV at that point). This year, it just seemed like they were magical so much of the time. It's a young, scrappy team that just didn't ever give up. So many games were won with walk-off hits... And maybe the best was rookie pitcher Jacob Misiorowski, whose blood seems to run ice cold: For example, in just his fifth MLB start, against the defending (and likely repeating) champion Dodgers, he gave up a leadoff homer to Shohei Ohtani, and then struck out the next five batters en route to a win, the second inning he was one pitch away from an immaculate inning and he became the only pitcher to strike out 12 Dodgers in 5 innings in the pitch tracking era. In fact, he had a staggering number of MLB records set in his rookie season.

It just seemed like everyone felt like it was Bob Uecker working some sort of heavenly magic... And then we got to the NLCS, and the Dodgers beat us over the head with sacks of all their money. The Dodgers have three pitchers who EACH make more than the Brewers' entire pitching staff, and their starting rotation makes more than our entire team.

I kinda think I'm back to being done with baseball again until they've got a salary cap or some other NFL-style financial rules that keep teams from being able to just buy championships. I quit baseball for a long time after the 1994 strike, really this year was the first full season I'd really paid attention to on a game-by-game basis since then. Back to football!

Absolutely... At one point, I drove US 12 in the semi from Pasco, WA to Missoula, MT. And while it was scenic and I would LOVE to do it again in the Tesla, I'd never do it again in a CMV. I probably only averaged 35-40 mph, and that's 342 miles according to Google Maps, so it probably took 9 hours. It was a bit of a grueling haul, and once committed, there's no easy way to get back up to I-90. And really, I-90 in that stretch isn't bad as far as scenery goes, especially when you get into Idaho.

Today I booked my ATP-CTP course.
Excellent! Where? I just finished mine...

And for my latest post in the thread, I just passed the ATP written. I was not nearly as prepared as I wanted to be, but I still managed a 95%.

And it renewed my hate for the FAA's poorly written tests! I hadn't taken one in a long time.

Getting ready to hit the road again, headed to the Gulf coast. I will DM you with a catch up later.

Speaking of Otani, how about that game the other day? 3 homeruns and 6 scoreless innings pitched. Many of his peers are calling it the greatest performance in baseball history.

CAE. They’re having an end-of-year sale.

Deferred flying 'til tomorrow. WX looks great all weekend here on the Delaware shore - but today's traffic, coming home from the airport in the afternoon/evening, will be horrendous. So, we decided to wait until tomorrow.

Spent yesterday morning moving 300 shipping cartons to our Operation Christmas Child drop-off location. That's enough cartons to hold 4500 shoeboxes. November is gonna be a bit busy....
should that go in the "what did you do yesterday?" thread?

the "what you did tomorrow" thread

Every post would be like "Got drunk on my mega yacht in Ibiza with my supermodel wife."

EZGO is getting re-butted today. First the framework, later the gusseting/reinforcement. Trying to remember how to use the squirt gun welder.
