What did you do today?

Flew to breakfast along with eight other planes from our airpark. Pretty soon we’ll have half as many on the daily breakfast run when the snowbords pull chocks.

Got my desk cleared off.

Finished moving the new plane’s logs to the AdLog system. Big stack of ADs that they sent, but half a dozen were permanently complied with when I was still in elementary school. Only two recurring ADs remained from the inch of potential ones.

About to hop on the motorcycle to run errands in town. After I get back, hop on the bicycle and hit the gym, and maybe laze around in the pool to soak up some healthy Vitamin D.

Been in the lifts many a time. Flying is no problem but the first 20 min in those lifts I can hardly let loose of the basket.

What does on call a flock of RV's?

Hey, hey hey!

I've got at least 150 hrs in this one, but this is my first picture...

...and about 20 hrs in this one. Also the first and only picture with it. I really need to work on my priorities.

Well there's a Gaggle of Geese so maybe with the RV grins it's a Giggle?

But according to the interwebz, it's only a Gaggle if the geese are on the ground. If they are flying it's a flock or a skein...

So I guess that's part of what I did today lol.

I've run about every piece of equipment there is. Just knobs and levers.

Back when I was a very young buck working construction they had a weekend school that cross trained us on various equipment and yes, your insight is correct.

One instructor said that most machines have two levers, lever A and lever B. If you don't know what lever A does ... lever B!

This one had 6. Plus a joystick. Luckily it had pictures!

Was planning to fly down to Tennessee but the weather was too nice and had to play sawyer.

Dad had a hickory that died last year that needed to come down. Plans on making it into a table top.

Being in a lift 70' up is way more unsettling than flying.

Oof. 70'!? Not sure I could do that. I did a 35' lift a couple years ago to take down a few sweetgums in our yard. The lift, being a rental, had a pretty noticeable sway up high.

A couple of weeks ago, I had another round of 'gums to take down closer to the house but decided to climb and tie a rope up high and just pull on them with the tractor this time.

Went to the airport to install a few things on the new hot rod. A buddy flew in to look at my new plane in his beautiful sx300.

I went airplane camping for the first time over the weekend. Took the light sport in to Kern Valley L05 and spent the night. Excited that summer is here!

Yeah, I've been told that I'm not allowed to do stuff like that. "If you need to get up any higher than what can be accomplished with a step ladder, we're hiring it out!" :p :p

Flew the plane from Providence back down to Richmond. Nice view of NYC as we flew over JFK. But the headwind kind of sucked.

Saw these guy play at jerry world.

Angus carried the show.

I started my annual “spring time service and resurrection of the engines” I got through my ‘72 caddy , ‘47 Chevy, ‘41 farmall, and hit a hiccup on the ‘62 Evenrude outboard I planned on using this weekend. Water pump impeller failure. One year old almost exactly, and the second time it’s happened. I’m to the point now I’m just going to change that out preemptively every spring before even trying to start it.

Deep into Purdue GP season. Total 7 hours sleep Fri-Sun. My soul was ache. I’m old, lol.

Are those rubber? Wonder if you can somehow get some spray lube/silicone in there for storage to increase its chance of survival?

I had the displeasure of doing some work in a BIG lift (Skyjack) a couple years ago. Even though it was parked on a concrete floor inside a building it was swaying enough to make me sick. Noooooo, thank you.

I had a friend that bought a scissor lift for his sign business. He stopped by my house on his way home with it. He insisted we get in it and drink a beer 35 feet in the air. He didn't even unload it from his trailer, and it swayed so bad. He enjoyed his beer. I sat down on the platform and clutched the railing like I was at the top of the empire state building.

35' in a scissor lift is cake. Although I do get a kick out of new hires that say theyre good with heights. Only to be white knuckling the bar joists once were up. "I'd be fine if I had a harness" I will call that bluff. I keep 3 in my truck. He was not fine with a harness.

The worst was an s125 boom lift. Had a mini cell tower to take down. Fully extended at a 70 degree angle. 110' vertically. Yours truly gets to wrap the choker. The sway was no joke 6-8'.

The concern is definitely real. We lost a good friend who was trimming trees when the out riggers sank into the ground, resulting in him getting slammed him onto his driveway. In a coma for weeks before he passed. Closed casket. Hard time for the family and friends. Definitely take the time to be diligent with them.. very unforgiving.

Meanwhile I don't like climbing the ladder into my 4wd tractor

Cleaned out a hoarders house. Took 8 of us about 3 days. Holy cow, I had no idea someone could live like that. Found 56 pistols and thousands of rounds of ammo buried under mounds of ‘stuff’.

That is pretty insane.
Please tell us you didn't take all 56 home and begin your own hoarding journey ;)

Like I probably would have lol

A friend's nephew was killed when the lift he was in blew over on a windy day. Harness wouldn't have done a damn thing.

The employees were in a scissor lift in an empty warehouse building.

Lifts aren't a joke in the wind. Thats a big arm attached to that sail.

The problem on this particular lift, is it was still on a trailer with leaf spring suspension. Sure, we were only 35' up, but every time he would sip his beer, it would change the center of gravity enough to swing us what felt like 5'. It wasn't just the normal sway of a scissor lift on solid ground, it was multiplied by the movement in the trailer suspension. It was bleeding horrible!

Yeah....that's effing dumb.

Im glad to hear I’m not the only one who has no problem with heights in an airplane, but gets nervous going up high in stuff held up by the ground. I thought I was the only one.

Getting us back to what I did today, we visited the only place in America that prints more money than Washington, DC.

The Fort Worth campus of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is one of two places we make paper currency and produces more than half the bills ordered in a year.

Free, but no cameras inside; worth the visit.

Then we drove 4.5hrs back home. Planned to fly up and back but I didn’t book the plane far enough in advance to have it for a long weekend. Original plan was to go up Monday and back today. That morphed to leave Saturday and do cool stuff all weekend. Oh, well.

Cleaned the belly of the little Cherokee. A little easier on the lift. Still sucks.

Also ordered a miller dynasty 300 Tig welder with a water cooler. Got the PO for a very large aluminum Tig job within an hour of the company receiving the test parts we did for them.
