What did you do today?

Currently trying to restrain myself. Quoted a job with certain jobsite stipulations as the site wasn't available for a walkthrough. Nothing on the site was close to the engineer plans. Engineer calls for CMU walls. Wasn't a block on the site as it was steel studs. After 3 revisions from the engineer significantly more material, and a ton more labor. Largely due to being unable to have access from below and having to cut the roof back. The job is done and billed

Problem is the GC is being a pain in the rear on the add orders. Wanted a separate bill for the additions. Done. Wants a specific breakdown of materials. Fine. Now wants a reciept from my vendor for the material. The material came from my stock and I undercharged you on the material anyway trying to cut you a break for having to get a roofer to seal the roof back up.

Congratulations, there is now a 250 dollar administration fee. Pay me my 46k and lose my number.

I suspect this GC is butthurt and wasting my time.

Started rebuilding my guitar pedalboard. I’ve been gathering parts for the past few weeks, and yesterday I ripped all the old stuff off. Today I started placing pedals and making patch cables. I’m still waiting for a couple of small switch boxes, but I have enough hardware now to put the major items together and start doing the programming.

I should be making a racket and annoying SWMBO in a day or two.

Wrapping up the last projects to make the current house ready for sale; we list on Thursday. Called the insurer to accelerate the term on the new shop (+house) to close this week instead of next. Seller informed us they slow-rolled ordering the survey but "paid to have it expedited" so we can close this week.

Contract says the buyer pays for the survey if the seller hasn't provided on >3 days before closing. Closing is soft set for Thursday. No survey by EOB tomorrow and it kicks back to the 14th. Going to KC this upcoming weekend to play with the grandbaby; we get back Monday night. No survey when we wake up Tuesday morning and the deal dies on the table. I went ahead and ordered a survey from the company I usually use today to keep this from falling apart. They don't expedite fee, but they do guarantee 10 business days or less and my normal contact there says they have a crew that can fix the land on Monday and they'll have paper within 48 hours.

Tomorrow I'm also picking up Simpson EZ post spikes to take care of some rotting fence posts on the current house. Those get pounded in sometime Wednesday after work. Me and the sawzall are going to get some quality time in. I don't particularly care to be this time-compressed on stuff, but sometimes it pays to be prepared.

Excellent! The Dallas POA crowd took me to Hard 8 one evening a few years, when I was out there on a business trip. Had a great time.
There's a lot of good food and good people there! My last "real" business trip there (pre-flying for a living) was about a decade ago and several of us went out. Unfortunately, in the aviation industry I've learned not to make my plans too big or too early or my trip will get canceled!

What a joke it is, and a travesty forced upon the masses.

Spent two hours sitting in an otherwise empty, hot, silent courtroom with 50 other prospective jurors on hard wooden church pews. Finally the judge came in and said the defendant took a plea deal and we are released for the day. Have to rinse and repeat again next week.

According to some of the other jurors, this is what happens every time. Why can't they save everyone the trouble and work out their plea deals before calling in jurors and wasting everyone's time.

I was a jury foreman once. The case was beyond hysterical. A 5 foot tall Welsh lady was charged with abuse of the 911 system. Her husband got drunk, she threw him out of the house naked, and two female deputies showed up to wrangle him. That enraged the Welsh lady, who spent an hour calling 911 and unleashing torrents of obscenities on the operators. A male deputy showed up and decided to arrest her, so she locked the doors. The male deputy tried to trick her into opening the door by dangling the naked husband in front of the door while he hid in the bushes. She opened the door to yank the husband in, the deputy lunged inside, and they all fell in a heap on the wet tile floor. He handcuffed her, whereupon she feigned a seizure, forcing him to call an ambulance (pro tip: feigning a seizure is apparently a common tactic when arrested). She was taken to the ER, where the doctor identified her as faking, causing her to unleash another torrent of obscenities and refuse to leave the ER, whereupon she was arrested again. All of this was recorded and we had to listen to it in court. She had a very strong Welsh accent. The judge got mad at us for laughing.

We found her guilty of several misdemeanors but innocent of the felony charge of resisting arrest with violence.

We later looked her up in a legal research service and she had a string of such events in her past.

I walked my Lhasa Apso dog Mr. Spock to the Ohio State University Campus via the Olentangy Nature trail, about a 5 mile loop. Ran into an old and vey agreeable colleague I'd known on the IACUC, chatted for a LONG time. The Universe threw me a bone and gave me a day off on my birthday. Mrs. Steingar gave me a nice present and took me out to this sensational restaurant where I ate better than I've ever eaten in my life. The City gave mea bit of a present too, the big garbage can finally arrived. That, and last night I smoked half of a really good cigar and drank a Costco-sized bottle of Chimay Trappist beer.

Finished repainting where an unnecessary elevator gap seal had been removed from the Parrakeet, then finished getting ready for tomorrow's FAA visit (new AWC & operating limitations).

In Connecticut, if you show up and aren't picked for a jury, your obligation is done for the year.

I removed my Warrior's wheel bearings, cleaned, inspected, and repacked. Then I replaced the brake linings.

Love the RapCo rivet tool!

SWMBO and I visited the Royal POA Child, as well as the nice young couple who take care of her for us.

Rain, rain, and more rain. All through the drive up here yesterday afternoon, all day today, and likely all the way home tomorrow afternoon. Hope the peeps in the panhandle make out okay. Heaven knows I've been through my share of 'canes, so they have my sympathies.

Defendant has to see how scary the jury pool looks. Apparently you’re pretty scary looking. ;)

exercised the lancair just now, beautiful skies in west texas, 80F
Couldn’t stay up long, the longitudinal stability was getting out of hand lol.
Tweaked the max MP and oil pressure.

5 mile walk with boy dog Mr. Spock to the local Farmers Market. That was after setting up the dough for the sourdough bread I'm baking tomorrow. After making brunch for me and Mrs. Steingar I proceeded to pick up about 30 pounds of black walnuts that had fallen in the yard, raked up a bunch of leaves and mowed the lawn after getting most of the rest of the leaves, and blowing all the crap off the deck. Drinking a well-deserved adult beverage as I write this.

Tried to go to the Mt Tobe (CT) fly-in yesterday. Had a significant mag drop and roughness on the left mag, but it cleared up after some higher rpm running so I figured (hoped) it was just fouled plugs, and took off. Checked it a couple of times in flight, no problem, until I tried it when I was about halfway there... and the engine quit. Turned around and headed home on the right mag. Diagnosed it to the point of ruling out the switch or P-lead as the problem. Looks like it's time for a mag replacement or overhaul, it was probably due anyway (no history known, lost engine logs).

Spent the afternoon helping mom clean out more of my recently passed step dads’ tools and accumulated crap to help prep the house for sale. It’s amazing how much stuff was in the “junk drawers “ in the tool chest, let alone boxes of random stuff that just needed to go. I of course kept anything useful, but still filled numerous bags heading to the curb.

1000nm, spur of the moment 4.3hr total trip time to enjoy the warm gulf coast water & beaches including a trip to the Destroyer Escort / Submarine museum, 6mi walking the sand and a park, asian dining and Marble Slab ice cream; home before sunset.
Applemaps says it would have been over 18 hours driving. Yay, Lancair.
Sucked O2 at 17000 & 16000 which helped the TAS
