What did you do today?

That's my limit, too. Thankfully, the temps were in the low 40s shortly after sunrise and high 50s/low 60s by midday.

On the second night, I stayed in Bemidji and the overnight temps never dropped below 40. I left it tied down on the ramp and hand-propped it. With the engine limbered up and battery charged, I shut it down and relied on the little motorcycle battery to crank the starter.

I was bucking a crazy headwind from the southwest for the final leg, with my ground speed occasionally at 55-60 knots. I ended up flying from Perham (16D) back to Paynesville (KPEX) at ~500 AGL to stay under the worst of it.

Coming back to KPEX, the wind was reported 200@10G17, perfect crosswind either way on runway 11/29. I thought "what kind of a tailwheel CFI would I be if I can't even land my own plane in these conditions after landing it 30+ times in gusty winds these last couple days?" and it was uneventful.

that makes sense even to me.

Did you suggest terms that would be appropriate?
"Interdune" should be limited to the deposits (of which there are many kinds). There's already a whole terminology for the different surfaces. In dune fields, there are all kinds of surfaces that form depending on the scale you're looking at and they have different origins depending on the scale of the processes that forms them. There have been classifications for those surfaces around at least since 1977, although recently, my colleagues and I redid the whole hierarchy because the previous classifications were based on models and things got really confusing when people tried to apply the classifications in the field. So we proposed a classification based on field observations.

What did I do today?

Found out that I don't qualify for the National Junior Honors Society because my GPA hasn't updated in over 6 months and my school refuses to update it.

What an amazing discovery.

I play jailhouse guitar: behind a few bars, looking for the key. The only requests I get are to stop.

Don’t string him along. He just needs to bridge the gap from where he is to where he needs to be. Otherwise he’s just creating a bottleneck where other musicians could slide in.

Either way, I’m not going to fret over it.

I just wouldn’t stick my neck out too far if I was you. People might think you’re a nut.

Well, you know how picky some people are....

Well, if you’d pickup appropriate skills they might sing a different tune.

Now you’re just stringing me along.

You can take it. You got pluck.

If we don’t keep this discussion amped up, it made move on to orchestral instruments and f-holes. I can’t deal with that kind of violins.

I'm afraid that if we move on to orchestral instruments, we'll end up with both sax and violins, thereby hitting a sour note with the admins.

So we better go back to da capo of this discussion.

And somehow capo and capo mean two different things.

More cowbell.

More church bell. ;)

I was away for a short interval, but you cats were riffing! I can't pun at that tempo (it's just too much treble to sustain) so I went down to the Whammy Bar for a fifth, but I was tapped out. Alas, the tone of my posts has gone to pot--how could I have stooped solo?

Nice set, y'all, with some clever improv. Everyone gets a production credit!

Speaking of things musical...

By The end of the day, these three little piggies will all have fresh strings, and

These not-so-little piggies will be on their way to a shop in LA for IRAN.

Some bird hunting then winterizing the outside of the house (draining hoses and such). The gas can is alcohol free gas for the winter for the 52F1. Lots of boats up here so alcohol free is available for $6 a gallon! Ignore the empty TKS containers. Just cleaning the hangar before there are more empty ones this winter.

Flew to IGQ and walked 9 tenths of a mile east to look at a building for an engineer. During the storms a few months back it partially had the roof torn off. When the engineer did a site visit he didn't have a scissor lift to inspect things.

Walked to Lynnie Q's for lunch. Flew the lake front. Charged 3500

Voted.

Tried to use my pilot’s license as ID, but they said I had to show something with my photo. ;)
I'll be voting tomorrow. County is trying to sneak in a 1% sales tax increase to go towards public school infrastructure, resource officers, and mental health staff.

Apparently $8,212 personally on my 11,910 property tax bill isn't enough. Would raise local sales tax to 9.25%

40 mile bicycle ride, then changed the final drive oil and lubed the rear driveshaft splines on the BMW GS motorcycle.

Celebrated @mrsjimk 's 40th

..by harvesting 120 acres of corn. Did I mention she's my favorite truck driver? Both looking forward to a relaxing long weekend at Gaston's before finishing up harvest next week. We did have cake when we got home at 7PM:

Performed oil change, borescope inspection, compression check, valve lash adjustment, and prop bolt retorque on the plane since it took such good care of me over the weekend.

My father-in-law used to say “Never vote yourself an additional tax. You’ll get enough taxes that you didn’t ask for. No need for a self-inflicted wound.”

He was a wise man.

While true, it's also worth looking at how things are allocated. Part of the reason school districts are doing referenda like this is that they're no longer getting enough money from the state. So, look at where the state has reallocated those funds and who did it. That's probably why you're seeing this.

Yesterday I went to the FSDO and got my LSMIA Temporary Certificate. That allows me to do the Annual Condition Inspection on any E-AB Airplane I own, whether or not I built it. Since the one I have is single seat, a Merlin, anything I might miss should affect only me unless the crash is into the proverbial busload of Nuns.

But only if you get the operating limitations updated to allow it.

Took my boys to the EAA Museum in Oshkosh for Space Day! EAA does a few different family events in the museum each year, and they're great. Lots of activities, and Daddy gets to ogle the airplanes while the kids are coloring their straw rockets. :D

There was a guy there with a collection of various space race era scale rockets he'd built, all at 1/48th scale, along with a 1/48th DeLorean and a 1/48th astronaut. It gave a great representation of the scale of the Saturn V! The Artemis rocket is also 1/48th.IMG_6186.JPG

45mi bicycle ride followed by hanging new curtain rods as directed by the spousal unit. Oh, and then watch college football.

You didn't happen to tell them to call me did you? Have an email and phone call to them that have gone unanswered. My sister is looking at wedding venues and eaa had a few options she was interested in. She's a flight school drop out and her fiance just got his commercial and works Chicago tracon. Would be both unique and fitting.

Replaced the Warrior's brake pads and inflated the nose gear strut. It was a little low.

Tried the hand-held mountain bike tire pump for the first time. With load, all the struts require about 450 psi. The pump goes to 600 psi. I could get it to about 375 psi, then pumping became too hard to securely hold the pump. I guess I need to workout more. Instead, I threw a couple blankets over the stabilizer and lined up a couple sandbags on the the spar on both sides. Then I used the tail skid/tiedown point and a line to pull the tail down and secure it to a hard point I'd installed in the hangar floor years and years ago. With the nosewheel off the ground, 120 pounds gave over 5" of exposed chrome, but bouncing the plane dropped it to 4". I'll do my brake pad conditioning runs and fly it to see if it drops a bit more before declaring it done.

Yesterday, watched one of my Alma maters, University of Cincinnati, dominate the $49-$50 Million Texas Tech Red Raiders Also, the other one, Stanford, defeated the $1.98 NC Wolfpack. Two for two.

The UC Win especially nice since Texas Tech lured last year’s UC QB to a signed transfer before they discovered he has a gambling addiction dating back to before UC signed him as a transfer from Indiana and he was subsequently declared ineligible. UC and Indiana were cleared by the NCAA and no penalties were isseued.

Not today, but earlier this week. Self grounded while we figure out a medical problem.

In the meantime we’ve been packing/moving to the new place at the rate of about a room per day. Last weekend we moved the shop to the bigger and better shop. Our offices got moved during the week and this weekend was all things that hang on a wall.

This week is CTs and things that end in scopy seemingly daily and packing the kitchen. The old house closes next week. Movers pick up and deliver furniture the day before. Next weekend is appliance buying.

Life never seems to stop. Hopefully we’ll be functioning in the new place by Thanksgiving. @Matthew I haven’t used the smoker or live fire since Labor Day and that just seems wrong, but the new place will make it worthwhile. I do have to get a 100 gallon hog tank and manifold for the outdoor kitchen at the new place. Too many 25lb tanks to manage; I’ll keep one on hand as the emergency tank, but continuing with individual tanks is just going to be too painful to consider.

Looks like my next year is full of honey do’s already.

Good thoughts for everything to work out well! Seems like your plate is full right now.
