What did you do today?

Got myself a student pilot.

This is me pulling up to the airport 30 mins before he arrives so I can crank his elevator trim wheel to the stops, screw up all the radio freqs, and squawk a discrete transponder code.

Guy's killing it with checklist usage - he found all my sabotage.
Time to pull a circuit breaker or placard something inop

I was doing an IPC in a Bonanza years ago. We took off when it was dark. When he raised the gear, the panel went dark.

For some reason he assumed it was something I did. I was innocent. There was a PK screw rolling around loose that the landing gear actuator jammed into a wire and shorted the instrument light circuit.

Not that he didn’t have good reason to think I did it.

Way ahead of you there. I laughed out loud the first time I got in this plane - I had not seen a turn coordinator placarded before. The zip tie circuit breaker collars are a nice touch.

I squawked the TC on the copilot’s panel of a King Air once. Next time I was in that seat was 6 months later, and it still didn’t work.

Turns out they replaced it but plumbed the air into the wrong side, and none of the copilots had noticed that it wasn’t working.

Stick Post-it Notes here and there with imagined issues... "Bolt missing..." "oil leak... '"

Totally not aviation related. Ran a coin collecting merit badge for my coin club’s annual show. We had 32 scouts in the class.

Drilled four 8" holes for a 7" duct through a cupboard (including a shelf) and through the ceiling into the 12" flat-roof joist space.
Also an aligned 1/4" hole up and through the roof membrane. Two big issues--perfect alignment of the the holes and dust mitigation.

Flew the Flying part of my AFR today. Insurance wants an “Annual” Flight Review for this old man. Did the ground portion at Oshkosh for “free”.

Forgot to turn on ForeFlight to record it. If there’s any way to import the ADSB track from Flight Aware it would be nice.

You can attach files (KML, screenshots) to logbook entries, but I haven't seen a way to get it render imported flight tracks as part of the logbook entry.

I think there's a roundabout way to do it by downloading the ADS-B track, using one converter to convert it into fake Garmin G1000 data, and then using ForeFlight's G1000 import function.

Or, if @X3 Skier has a Garmin GPS or a GI275 or most any of their other PFDs, it's possible to just import that logfile directly into ForeFlight as a track log.

Spent a couple more hours doing upper air work with my student. Trying to build strong fundamentals. I'm intimately familiar with the damage a crappy time-builder CFI can inflict, praying my guy doesn't have to spend a couple hundred hours fighting primacy like I did. "First, do no harm." :yesnod:

Figured out where my VW's coolant has been going. womp womp

Hot rodding diesel engines is cool because pinging is no longer a limiting factor, but the physical strength of the components still is. :raspberry:

A) Too hard
B) Zero Garmin stuff.

So I just added the screenshot.

Went to the lake and rode our Waverunner for the first time this season. The holdup was that my younger daughter's car is the only one in the family with a trailer hitch, and she moved out of our house the first of May, and was juggling moving in, grad school, and a full time job.

I found some relatively flat water and rode it like I was 28 instead of the 68 that I actually am. Fun, but I can't keep that kind of riding up for very long, it starts making my neck hurt.

Voted.

We have rather depressing choices. I understand that we often have to settle for the lesser of two evils, but it depresses me when we get the evil of two lessers.
The last time I was proud to vote was also the first time I voted. I was in high school at the time. The voting age was 18. The guy I voted for used to be in the movies.

Flew a solo IMC night approach down to just above minimums last night. Worst visibility I've experienced outside of a sim. Greased the landing.
Heh... I had one of my worst landings ever after one of the more dire IMC situations I've encountered. It wasn't the worst weather, but it was absolutely dropping the fastest - I was the penultimate plane that landed before the airport went below minimums for 24+ hours.

....then forgot to call and close my flight plan....:mad2:
That's how you know it was a challenging approach! (Welcome to the club)

Saga of trying to return a purchase the GF made.

Yesterday: Wait 10 minutes in line. “Certainly Sir” 5 minutes clerk fiddling with the terminal. “Our system is down for returns. Can you come back tomorrow?”

Today: 10 more minutes in line. “Certainly Sir” 2 minutes fiddling. “Please use the credit card that was used.” No can do. “I have the receipt”. “ Sorry, you need the card or accept a store credit.” Exit stage right.

Tomorrow: ?

Is that legal? Is it a requirement of the credit card company?
