what can an iPad/Foreflight user do with an extra tablet that is Android?

I just came in possession of a new 7" 8 GB Android tablet, as a Black Friday promotion. I'm not sure what to do with it, so I'm asking here for ideas.

I could just give it to one of my teens, but first I want to see if there's a useful aviation purpose for it, given that I already use an iPad and iPhone with foreflight when I fly. I could imagine flying with both the iPad and the 7" android tablet at the same time, as my lap board will accommodate them both, one on each leg. But what exactly would I do with the android tablet if I have foreflight open on the iPad?

Details: the tablet is an LG G Pad 7, with AT&T wireless service. It has only 8 GB. My iPad has no wireless service, although I can always use my iPhone as a hotspot for my iPad. I already use my iPad for many daily purposes outside of aviation.

Speaking as an Android user, I believe I would give it to your kids.

FF is pretty complete in functionality. The 8gb of that Android is not big enough to run much. I have not looked up the specs on that tablets screen but I doubt it has the brightness I would want in the cockpit. 2 tablets are more than I would want without good reason. No sense going looking for a reason...

What type of aircraft do you fly?

As an example, we Bluetooth an Android tablet to our GRT Avionics EFIS to give us a full EFIS in the back cockpit of our RV-8.

You could download and try Avare. It is similar to Foreflight but free.

A lapboard with two tablets going at the same time? Seems like overkill.

>>Cue the photo of the instrument student with half a dozen kneeboards and a fly fishing vest full of doo-dads.<<

Personally I would bother with it for flying if you have the ipad and iPhone running FF.

More info: I fly a four-seat plane, IFR, cross-country, usually alone or with one passenger.

Two uses come to mind so far:

1. Backup EFB for the iPad, when its battery runs out, which really can happen because my mission is 6 hours flying plus time on the ground when I refuel. However, I don't want to pay for another service beyond Foreflight. Avare sounds like a possibility as a backup that would work - thanks Kmacht.

2. Can I use the android tablet's USB connector as an external power source for the iPad to extend its battery lifetime? That way I could use Foreflight with extended hours. Will it work?

I'm assuming you have no lighter socket to plug into? I'd suggest an external battery such as this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F00B9A0?psc=1

I have a lighter socket, but I am using it already.

A separate external battery might be good, but actually I am not looking for a new gadget, I am looking for a use for the Android tablet that I already have.

I heard the Android can be used as a cutting board for your cheese wedge, while watch a movie at home, sipping wine.

For the idea of charging the iPad using the android-device, I found something close -- Samsung offers a special cable for almost that purpose

http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EP-SG900UWESTA

But it seems to be intended for:
a Samsung device as the charger (I have an LG tablet)
a device with micro USB as the chargee (the iPad has a lightning connector instead).

Other Android aviation apps I have loaded are:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.fltplan&hl=en

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avrtwx.widgets.myutc&hl=en

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.control.awm&hl=en

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=googoo.android.btgps&hl=en

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monroemobile.contactatc&hl=en

If the concern is that the Ipad battery will fail, that should be addressed directly. Perhaps there is a higher amp charger or Ipad version with better battery. Perhaps the solution would be an external backup battery pack.
