What are people thinking on some paint schemes?

With the drop of MOSAIC I surfed over to Trade-A-Plane to look at what's available as a potential new aircraft. I found a few that piqued my interest after looking at the specs and then after looking at the pictures I thought OMG!

I freely admit I like classic conservative paint jobs and no one will ever accuse me of being artistic, but what posses people to paint these aircraft in the manner that they do???

Should they consult with others and take a vote before they spend THEIR money to paint THEIR airplane?

Are you the president of an HOA by chance?

No, no I'm not. Just someone looking at potential aircraft to purchase and ruling out aircraft that I see that appear hideous to me. It's great that there are people in the world, such as yourself, that appear not to care what an aircraft looks like. Do you by chance own a pink house?

I'm curious what manner this is. Is it color choice? Got an example?

Perfect for hauling creative cargo from latin american countries.

Maybe if you're headed south over Patagonia? The nose art makes it seem like they don't care if they're seen...

I don't find this offensive. Not my cup of tea but I've seen worse.

I'd also be willing to bet this is a wrap than can be peeled off in a couple hours.

I'm not offended by it. It's not something I would do and most importantly buy. Unless, of course, the price reflects the time and effort to get a new paint job. But, for me, it would have to be substantially discounted...

I've seen an all black Turbo Lance. Looked cool as hell. But I'm sweating just thinking about being in it.

There are some awful schemes out there. A few year’s ago, I saw a pair of dragon painted RV’s. Nicely done, but the resale market will be tiny without a repaint. Presumably the builders are in for the long haul, so they can repaint in a more benign scheme in 20 years and enjoy their flying dragons in the meantime.

I’m less worried about the paint scheme and more worried about quality and condition of the existing paint.

Wow. Tough crowd. Just trying to have a little conversation, it is the "Hangar Talk" forum after all. I hope you and @Doc Holliday have a better day...
Dude, chill. This isn’t a tough crowd, but your discussion comes off as a bit whiny. Yes, there are some awful paint schemes out there. The solution? Walk away, don’t buy it… see how easy that is?

Agreed. But I'm going to look at an aircraft I don't have to repaint first.

Been having a great day. I just don't get wrapped around a post about what other people do with their private property. ;)

Glad to hear it! Me neither. I don't understand what in my OP would make you think I was "wrapped around a post". Just asking a question based on an observation...

I guess I don't see the "whiny" take, but thanks for the feedback. Was never looking for a solution, but thanks.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and value can be negotiated.

I’ll gladly offer a significant haircut on an otherwise acceptable aircraft that has a high quality yet ugly paint job.

Same. Some of them really are a little too bespoke. I won't say "bad," cuz they occasionally do have artistic talent but they just aren't good for resale value.

In the truly adventurous paint jobs you gotta find a REALLLLLL specific audience to buy your wares if you're lookin' for full price.... Or more likely, be prepared to factor a mandatory repainting into the purchase price lol.

And then again we all have different tastes. For instance, I actually really like that crazy multicolored Mooney paint job above!

A lot of people would hate my paint scheme. I hated my paint scheme when I bought the plane because I was living in Arizona and was sick of pink and turquoise (I bought the plane anyway because I could not care less about cosmetics, and it is a good airplane). But then it grew on me when I realized it was the classic colors of cars from that era (1958). So when I had it repainted (which it badly needed as the paint was sunburned and essentially missing from the tops of the wings and cowling), I recreated the original paint scheme. Everywhere I go, someone wanders over to tell me it's a beautiful airplane.

I want to see a paint scheme with 99 red balloons.
Be careful what you wish for . . .

"99 Luftballons auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont,
Hielt man für UFOs aus dem All,
Darum schickte ein General eine Fliegerstaffel hinterher . . ."

Like your paint, reminds me of a rainbow trout. Where do you fly out of?

Actually, that's probably a representation of a Mooney that I would pass on. But it definitely is an eye catcher for sure.
Because you don't want to spend a few hours peeling off they vinyl wrap?
