This makes three, my dad who hasn't flown since 1980 or so, me and my baby boy Thomas! After soloing at 16 his CFI moved away before he could get his PPL then he lost interest for a while and finally a month or so ago his old CFI called him and the rest is history!:yes:
Me, Thomas and my dad.

My wife, me, Randy Farrell (CFI), Thomas and my parents. My mom actually soled back in the day, but never finished up. So everyone in the picture except my wife has at least soloed. :D

Very cool! So...you gonna let him fly the 182 unsupervised?

That's awesome!
I love flying but I especially love flying with my dad since we both have the bug.

3 generations is pretty cool.

That's the only thing he's ever flown, other than right seat time with me in the 421 and 425. :D My dad bought a 182P in 1972, he flew it and got his PPL in it. I started flying in 1984 in the same 182, got my PPL and IR in it. So, when Thomas expressed an interest in flying my dad and I bought this 182 and he learned from day one in it. :D

great pic. I wish my kids took an interest in flying. I've offered to pay for flight training but neither had any desire.

Sounds like a green light to me! :D

Pass our congratulations to him John!

Cool story. My dad hates pilots so I think it's cool when people fly with their dad.

Congrats, new one here too. My 19 y/o Son did well on his PP check ride last week. After 4 years of casual flying he decided he was ready for structured flight lessons.

He may take Mom up later today, his 1st official passenger, since I don't count.

Cool beans! I got my PPL one year (almost to the day) after my dad. Since then we've flown to OSH several times together, helped each other through IR training, and built two airplanes together. It's definitely more fun when you can share it with someone. Now that I can fill the 4-seater with my own family, dad and I don't get to buzz around together as much as we used to, but we take advantage of it when we do and see who can make each other sicker faster. :)

Nice. I'm the only pilot in our family. My dad got some time in the copilot's seat of an R4D during WWII, but that was just to provide some comic relief for a couple of bored pilots. He has a Pharmacist Mate 3rd and they were running back up the San Joaquin Valley. It was the first time Dad had been in a plane so they invited him up and put him in the right seat. Then gave him the controls. Straight and level were two different maneuvers. When he was done (and they were finished laughing) he went back to his buddy who commented on the rough weather they had had. I don't think Dad told him what had really happened.

Congrats, John!

But does he know you call him "my baby boy" on a manly man forum? If that big scrapping kid is a baby, I'm gonna hate to see him when he grows up!!! :wink2:

That is terrific! I only know one other "3- generation" family of pilots.

Congratulations!

Baby boy is a joke in our house, he's 3 inches taller than his big brother! :D
