On the way back from Oshkosh one of my alternators failed and I’ve been waiting for it to get rebuilt since I got home (new ones are not available, weird 12v Columbia )

Fall weather showed up today and man it’s killing me not being able to fly

Been flying commercial on flights I’d normally be flying my plane

I don’t know how you guys down for 6 months or a year do it.

I had a Plane Power 150A alternator fail and the only replacement through a retailer was in Germany! I happen to find a new one on Ebay. It was the only one in the Americas that was available. The failed unit was sent to Hartzell/PP for warranty repairs but they are going to replace the unit….they are estimating months until they can produce a new one!!! A friggin alternator…. I feel your pain. Consider looking at some of the salvage parts dealers and having a salvage unit overhauled…if you can find one. I’m getting a B&C standby unit installed at the moment.

If that thing isn't deiced, swap it out for a IVP or ESP. The last alternator I bought a year ago for the 2 seat variant Lancair was $52 with shipping and tax on amazon. I keep a spare on the shelf.

Not all of us do, I quit over it. Engine, not alternator though.

In fairness to me, I did have a 70 day AOG back in the day, waiting on an outboard spar. I was relatively copacetic about that wait... since it was zero out of pocket. An inverse relationship between cost and willingness to wait. Thankfully the pedestrians in the real world told me no you're fine, that's normal human rational incentives... something this hobby dismisses like it's its job lol.

You know what's even crazier than paying an outsized tax to wait on a hobby? "Waiting" on a conditional job offer for over 2 years. Talk about a sucker born every minute, and this is coming from the username checks guy mind you. iykyk.

Tell me more

Alternator?
Electrical system?
Nope, Li+ for the radio, P-FLARM and netto.

About the alternator or about the IVP and ESP?
If it's the alternator you can use any alternative parts on EAB. If it's the IVP and ESP, go to lancairtalk.com and register for a free account. Paul, the moderator over there, is a lancair broker. He's currently advising a super ES which I think is the EAB version of the plane you have now

I feel you. Having the lance down for 5 months was torture. I'm not joking to say that I didn't feel like myself. Access to another plane is crucial. Unfortunately for me, the skyhawk is so slow and poorly equipped that I only flew it a few times, although it did save me a couple long drives. That's a large part of why I'm building a second fast plane. "Two is one, one is none"
