Hello. Will a garmin gtx 330ex, or the remote version thereof, pair with a Garmin GTN625 GPS? Is there a reason why I would need the way more expensive GTX345 remote for this installation? Coaching appreciated! thanks.

First of all, I think you mean GTX330ES rather than EX. Second, it depends on what you mean by "pairing". I'm guessing that you want the GTN625 to provide GPS position data that the 330ES can use for ADS-B Out. I believe the answer is yes.

yes. GTX330es remote version. Can I install (remote, not in the panel...) and use it with th GTN 625... for ADS-B out. Do I gain functionality with the newer GTX335 remote? In understnd the 345R gives me ADS-B in as well as out...I guess main question is the 335 any different than the GTX330 es? I've read up on the Garmin site and stay pretty confused... Thanks for the reply

Ah, the remote version is the GTX33ES. Yes, the GTN625 can act as a control head. The GTX335R is smaller and lighter than the GTX33ES. It also has the option for an integrated GPS while the GTX33ES does not. The newer unit also has an option for a pressure altitude encoder module.

The 330ES/33ES did not originally come with ADSB-Out but needed a mod from Garmin to get that functionality. The 335/335R always had it.

To be extremely pedantic ... the 330/33(D) were the non-ADSB versions. The ES (extended squitter) variants (either purchased as such, or non-ES models returned to Garmin for upgrade to ES) all are ADS-B out capable.

Precisely. My local avionics shop, getting close to the deadline, would swap your 33/330 for a 33ES/330ES and then send yours out to be upgraded for the next guy. Worked pretty well.

sounds like the GTX33ES is a good option... maybe not "best option..." but a few thousand bucks cheaper. That said the GTX345 in my other airplane I'm flying now, is a great in and out solution. Connects easily with everything in the panel and bluetooths handily w my iPad. Really think this is both good, and best for all the utility of the unit.
Thanks for all the valuable input. This stuf can all get out of my technology skills "envelope" quickly. MUCH OBLIGED

You should also compare the Stratus ES transponder (works with your GTN) which can also give you ADSB In as well as Out. About half of the cost of a Garmin 345.

Downside is that the other Garmin components won't take the ADSB In from it; hence, no traffic or weather on your GTN screen. FWIW, I have mostly Garmin but with a Stratus transponder. It sends ADSB to my tablet, which I prefer over putting traffic / weather on the smaller Garmin screens anyway.
