Three unique things...

This is a hard thread to resist. Here are my 2 cents

1. I competed in the Miss Iowa Pageant in 2002. :blowingkisses:
2. I competed in....ok, participated in....well, lets just say I finished, the first ever Hy-Vee Triathlon in DesMoines in 2007.
3. I spent 6 weeks living in a tent in Key Largo,FL eradicating the Island of invasive plant species.

hopefully not as the comic relief
Actually, you're close... I was the technical liaison for a shoot at a big club I used to work at, and they grabbed me to play a bartender for some filler scene.
No lines and no... um, action. I was prepared, if necessary, but they had that covered already, LOL. Not sure if it ever made it into the final cut.

It was a different work experience in general, that's for sure, and a different sort of adult-film shoot: the production team was all female ex-porn stars, and most of the crew were ex-performers as well. The shoot was a series of vignettes written and directed by women, and intended for the women or couples market, I guess,as opposed to the usual thing. I was pleasantly surprised to find that most of these folks are just nice, regular people in a really weird business... :D

Couple other fun ones,

I had a Sealion show with wild sealions (even had my hand inside ones mouth with wrist past the teeth).
I had a non captive pet pelican.
I used to share my bed with a 12' Burmese Python.

1. Ridden a locomotive over every foot (meter?) of the Estonian Railway. (A beautiful country. BTW)
2. Same for the Alaska Railroad.
3. Intentionally crashed locomotives together to acquire acceleration data.
3. As a young pup (26 or 27 I think) I was the crew chief for one of the first two Porsche 944 Turbo's imported into the country. These were brought in especially for an endurance race series in SCCA Pro racing. The Playboy, Escort Radar Detector Racing Series. The drivers for our car were Sterling Moss, former F1 British racing legend, and Innes Ireland also former F1 Star. Our third driver was Dominic Dobson, an Indy car driver. Moss and Ireland were extremely nice and funny guys. They found all the race groupies amusing (Gene Hack man was a driver at one of the races and asked if I would introduce him to Sir Stirling). Ireland drove best after (quite) a few Gin and Tonics.
4. Ridden an "armored" train through northern Colombia on a test with many armed guards to protect us gringos. (AKA FARC bait) The fat guy in front in the picture is me, with my "posse".

Yeah, the porn industry is kinda funny. It's really changed since the old Mitchell Bros days.

1) Played a live concert in front of 50,000+ people.
2) Not only met a famous musician (Neil Zaza), but got to play a concert with him and tell stories around the soundboard (kinda like a campfire for musicians).
3) I built a guitar.

Pretty interesting group here ...

My take ...
1) Slept on a rail way station in the middle of nowhere
2) Dropped a bottle of bear on the trail (yep, that was the last one :) )
3) Accidentally, dropped a bottle of blue ink on my high school teacher.

2. I competed in....ok, participated in....well, lets just say I finished, the first ever Hy-Vee Triathlon in DesMoines in 2007.

Congratulations. Wasn't that a blazingly hot day? I watched it on TV and, after Laura Bennett crossed the line, everyone behind her just melted -- literally.

Best I could come up with:

1. Completed 6 Ironman triathlons
2. Studied Gleim for both CPA AND private
3. Was simultaneously a student and teacher at my high school

Had an uzi poked in my chest in Sudan
Had an uzi poked in my chest in Haiti
Did not have an uzi poked in my chest in Venezuela

Edit: Shared a joint with the Monkees

Interesting, I had an Uzi poked in my chest in Bordeaux once (hint: not the one in France.) And an AK in Arizona.

Lisa, one day you and I are going to need to have a beer together.

I had 5 M16s and a M240 trained on me when the Two Man policy broke down at a Nuclear Weapons Storage site.

Not fun.

Never had an Uzi pointed at me. Took one away from a guy after he rolled his car once though. He was in no shape to point it at anybody at the moment. Had a shotgun pointed at me once... I could have sworn that barrel was big enough to crawl in (not that the barrel of the .357 the guy used to rob me at the gas station looked any smaller at the time, lol)!

I'm up for that. Several on the Board I'd be happy to have a beer with. One of these days I want to make it to Gaston's too.

OtisAir --- you need a new one -- I've been to the very top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa too!!:p

1) Crossed the Atlantic in a Polish ocean liner (M/S Stefan Batory)
2) Crawled through a hole in the Berlin Wall and shared a smoke with East German border guards
3) Marched in a May Day parade in Warsaw carrying an American flag (in 1972)

1)I have never
2)done anything
3)as cool as the rest of you guys.

1) My first airplane ride was right seat in a B-25. Just me and him for about :45 minutes.

2) Made two free ascents in the tower at Pearl Harbor...one from 90', the other from 200'+. At age 12.

3) Dove on a WWII Zero off O'ahu at 220'.

I've had a 12 ga shotgun in the small of my back when I was spread eagled across the hood of a police crusier. Turned out I fit the description of a burglar.

I had two police draw on me at very close range when they thought I was going for a weapon. It was a cold night (Christmas Eve, in fact) and I thoughtlessly put my hands inside my down vest on a traffic stop. Actually, it was pretty funny...they acted like Starsky & Hutch.

I had five M-16s point blank drawn on me while on a surf trip in mainland Mexico. The chief idiot also planted a grenade in my vehicle and almost got away with that.

Gave Francis Hoopes his last wish-an airplane ride.

Played across the line from John Madden in College football.

I got to fly Gail S. Halvorson The Berlin Candy Bomber, into the Idaho Backcountry.

And just in case my wife, Essie, reads these. We celebrated 56 years this July 3rd. Bob

Wow...you guys are interesting! I need to get out and do some more stuff!

1.) Sat with Charles Duke (Apollo 16) and talked with him for hours (long story...basically he liked the view from my uncles ski house and stopped by!)

2.) My left eye does not turn left (Duanes syndrome type 3)

3.) I own a percentage of a ferris wheel

You're on!

I'll be holding you to that! ;)

Wow...you guys are interesting! I need to get out and do some more stuff!

As do I, Ross, but seeing as we're younger than a number of these folks, we have plenty of time to do some of these interesting things!

I suspect that just about all of us have other interesting stories that are either "over a beer" stories like Lisa's or are otherwise things we know that others have likely done. I like to think I have a few of both. :)

This is so much fun to read!

Missa, we'll have to have a beer sometime. I don't think you even live that terribly far away, either?

1. Briefed both Governors Thornburgh and Casey on international trade/economic development when they were in office in PA. Went to the World Economic Forum, Davos, Switzerland with Gov. Casey.

2. Played lacrosse in college.

3. Went to a party in college with Howie Long.

1) Walked the Mackinac Bridge 12 times, 60 miles worth.
2) Played Trumpet/Keyboard/Backup Singer with an Elvis Impersonator for two years.
3) Married at 19 for 34 but leave that as a push with Dan since both marriages are still going strong.

There ya go!!

Though my entry was a typo -- it's 28 years for us!!

No she doesn't, and since I'd like to join in for that beer (assuming I'm invited), she and I ought to grab the Mooney and fly on down sometime for a visit.

Of course, then I'll end up being the designated pilot. :goofy:

I was going to say it's a girl thing.... but I guess you fit in. B)

Hey all I wanted was to get introduced to Elizabeths friends... she keeps in the company of royals and runs around Europe with the elite. :princess:
Sounds like a blast of a time!

But beer and stories (or better yet some Red Wine) sound like a great time.

Yeah, I act and look more feminine than you.

She may hang out with more fun ones than I have, but the ones I've met are mostly snobby and not that interesting. I had one get miffed at me for not being all over her, but I was engaged at the time.

Ok, so when are we hopping in the Mooney to go visit? :)

Mmmm...reflecting on this thread made me realize that I've done some pretty crazy stuff at the time...

From the top of my head:

1. Almost got hit by an RPG in Lebanon (wiiisshhh...kabooom)

2. Destroyed my brand new Suzuki motorbike - I survived with a few scratches - the bike did not... ( maybe I went to heaven - just not aware of it ? )

3. Landed aboard a medevac jet in Congo in the middle of a civil war - no radio communications, no flightplan clearance...was surrounded by armored vehicles and almost got shot...

It just seems like 38....

We were having dinner with friends who'd been married just a little longer than us. He said "Time flies... it seems like it's only been, like... five minutes!" (long pause before he continued) "...under water..." He tried to escape the fork she wielded, without success, as we all burst into laughter.

1) I've been married for 25 years

35 years for us.

1. Struggled with a lion. She had a bite wound (tiger, adjacent cage) we were treating...all at Africam in Mexico 1990.
2. Mass start about 3000 people in a 50k langlauf or loppet...an x-c ski race....lets see about a picture to give the feel - below

The scar has faded from playing with a mountain lion (Cougar) cub a number of years ago at the veterinary school at WSU.

Participated in the only muzzleloading biathalon in the world during Steamboat Winter Carnival back in the early 1980s (twice).

1. I competed in the Miss Iowa Pageant in 2002. :blowingkisses:

I ran the audio system for the 1970 Washington state Junior Miss Pageant.

1. Ridden a locomotive over every foot (meter?) of the Estonian Railway. (A beautiful country. BTW)
2. Same for the Alaska Railroad.
3. Intentionally crashed locomotives together to acquire acceleration data.

I've ridden in the cab of a steam locomotive. Does that count? A friend was the engineer and his daughter was the fireman.

Spent an evening with Dick last year in Dallas, learned a lot about baseball.

1. Briefed both Governors Thornburgh and Casey on international trade/economic development when they were in office in PA. Went to the World Economic Forum, Davos, Switzerland with Gov. Casey.

Does that ever worry you?

When I think about some of the things I've done and walked away unharmed I sometimes wonder if that happened....I mean after something really horrifically intimidating scary happens, I'm almost certain that the law of averages took one look at me and said "What the...how the heck did you survive that? There's no way, you're supposed to, aw to heck with it, someone has got to die for that one to keep the Universe in balance and since you didn't even get winded..." then somewhere far away, maybe even on a different planet, some innocent totally healthy kid (probably an immortal on a few occasions) was walking along with no risk at all then just fell over dead for no observable reason.

Nevermind. Too much philosophy, too much wine and certainly too much thinking going on tonight...

I just figure God likes me and she keeps me around for laughs and my sense of humor.

Now where's that Eskimo woman I'm supposed to wrassle?
what a cool idea Troy; fun, and a neat way to get to know more about others. And if someone tops your 'three'; there's motivation to get out there and live a little more!

It was all you could do not to jump out of your skin when she woofed (I mean, LOUD) at you and jerked around. Not quite mano a mano, as she was in a restraint.
2. Mass start about 3000 people in a 50k langlauf or loppet...an x-c ski race....lets see about a picture to give the feel - below
3. Soloed a jet. :)
4. a few moments flying right seat, at altitude, autopilot off, brand spanking new 737 out of Seattle to Dallas. Total crew and pax about 8. :D Also jumpseated on a short hop in a 737 for a repositioning to a mx base.
5. Made airliners.net!

ha - great thread!

1) Military transport was shot at and hit when we were evacuated from Libya to Germany

2) Last place several times in Jet Ski races - I did crash once battling with another guy NOT to end in last place

3) 15 mins of fame in Omaha World Herald for my Virus Detection software back in the 90's. One of the first to have a program like this.

Allan Lindsay

  • I started a business when I was 19 and ran it for 12 years.
  • I worked for Steve Fossett.
  • I was technical lead in charge of the network, desktops, and servers at the corporate HQ of a Fortune 50 company.

You know the online health records idea? I built that 15 years ago when they thought Hillary would push it.

Led a mostly stay-at-home life until I went nuts and became a pilot in middle age.
