Three unique things...

Lets see,
Raced a 1/4 midget at age 5
Rolled an asphalt roller (well, parked it on it's side...)
Dumped hot coals into an outhouse pit (that was a mistake...)

All work related, in a past life-

1) Been clocked at over 100MPH on snow skis (no lame metal cage to protect me)
2) Dropped off 100'+ cliffs on snow skis (no lame parachute to delay the impact)
3) Coached Olympic ski racers (one of my girls won a Silver Medal)

Now that I look back on this stuff, they are actually pretty boring! I used to think it was pretty exciting...

Lots of police stories come to mind, but with enough of us on the Board, I'd have to strike a few stories I'm sure (or more likely the best ones are not ones I'd print in a public forum! ;)).

Hmmm.... shall we start a Spin Zone clone thread for those stories?

I agree, Lisa wins so far.

1) I've been married for 25 years
2) Run over by a J-3 cub as a very young kid
3) Delivered my boy in the back seat of a Ford Escort

Oh the memories

Kevin

1) Trained with monks at the Shaolin Temple in China
2) Full contact stick fighting (only eye protection)
3) Got absoluetly faced with Justin Chancellor from Tool

No..they are more like "over a beer" stories...with a strict prohibition of recording devices. :) And just to be clear.. no "abuse of power" kind of stories, only "not nice for polite company" sort, or stories surely to be used in divorce proceedings somewhere. B)

Should I ever have the privilege of meeting you, Lisa, I will be buying you a minimum of one beer! :)

Lisa wins by several miles!

which pass was that?

Klausenpass. At the top of the mountain (Klausen), there is a restaurant that I had lunch at. I asked what a local specialty was, and it was some sort of pasta with apples. Quite yummy. The water there was the best I've ever had. After all, we were right at the source.

1. Performed before paying audiences as a member of The New Christy Minstrels (that's me second from right, onstage with six of the original Minstrels from 1962);

On%20Stage%20with%20NCM_2.jpg

2. Spent several family weekends at Ronald Reagan's Santa Barbara ranch, keeping warm with firewood chopped by The Gipper himself;

3. Logged four hours First Officer time in a DC-3.

I can't beat Lisa's running around Naykid story, but I did get to go down inside of one of the Great Pyramids in Cairo. The one closest to the Sphinx. Afterwards, I flew in an OH58 over the top. Very Cool Indeed.

Wow, Pilawt, just wow...

some more....
Was a winning dirt track stock car driver
Played guitar in a '70s rock band (no, IN the '70s)
Was married for 20 years

List three things you've done/experienced/seen that you don't think anybody else on POA has done.

what a cool idea Troy; fun, and a neat way to get to know more about others. And if someone tops your 'three'; there's motivation to get out there and live a little more!

1. Struggled with a lion. She had a bite wound (tiger, adjacent cage) we were treating...all at Africam in Mexico 1990.
http://www.africamsafari.com.mx/english/conservacion.php
It was all you could do not to jump out of your skin when she woofed (I mean, LOUD) at you and jerked around. Not quite mano a mano, as she was in a restraint.
2. Mass start about 3000 people in a 50k langlauf or loppet...an x-c ski race....lets see about a picture to give the feel - below
3. Soloed a jet. :)
4. a few moments flying right seat, at altitude, autopilot off, brand spanking new 737 out of Seattle to Dallas. Total crew and pax about 8. :D Also jumpseated on a short hop in a 737 for a repositioning to a mx base.
5. Made airliners.net!

6. there once was this girl...doh! too much said already!

I got this idea from a blog entry I read. List three things you've done/experienced/seen that you don't think anybody else on POA has done. If somebody also claims an item you've claimed, you both have to strike it off your list and add a new item. Can be aviation related, or not. It's not a "brag about yourself" thread, it's "just for fun", to get to know your fellow POA members better... and it's an interesting exercise to try and reminisce about what things "unique" you've done in your life.

1. Probably not unique, but I have been flying the same Cessna 182 for the last 30 years. See the map for the states I have flown it in (except NJ which was a different airplane - but add to the total BC Canada).

2. Picked up a new Jaguar at the factory in England - and drove same all over Europe over the next couple of years. Commuted to work in it at 100+ MPH on the Autobahn. Still have it 38 years later.

3. Got locked inside the Mercedes Museum (at their HQ in Germany) after it closed for the day.

Dave

1. Got hit by lightning while riding my motorcycle.
2. I live fulltime year round in a RV. (2 years and counting)
3. Six weeks solo backpacking (mostly off trail) in the Colorado backcountry with no one even knowing I went much less where.

That's three.

* Took out a 3ft diameter hornet nest that was completely covered with bees with a cup of avgas.
* A friend and I walked into the airport terminal one day with two realistic looking black water pistol submachine guns..then realized the secret service was there...
* Haying season included bailing hay off the Rockafellers farm every year.
* Fell 30 feet in the barn (ridgepole to somewhere in the vicinity of the floor) and had a several tons of hay land on top of me.
* Flew on a 6ft kite as a kid. (don't ask)
* Met Buzz Aldrin
* Was stage manager and was an actor and had a shotgun at the world premier of a new play that had never been on stage before.
* I've gone on dozens and dozens of adventures and vacations...and have yet to arrive at the destination that I set out toward when I started.
* Have experience a total of 175F of temperature extremes (-50F to +125F)

There's more...

What a cool idea for a thread! Here are a few unusual things I've done...

- I've flown right seat in a Lockheed Constellation...for 0.3 hours
- I bought an old hotel next to an airport and spent six years converting it into an aviation theme-suite hotel -- and it's still going strong today.
- I've stared down the barrel of a snub-nosed .38 being held by a police officer when I came out of an inner-city store with a money bag in my hand. I had just collected a bill from the store owner, who had inadvertently set off his silent alarm.
- I found a woman who liked motorcycles and airplanes, and I've stuck with her for 32 years...

1) Am a member of the "300 club", which is a South Pole Antarctica tradition (google it!).
2) Used to have lunch every week with two Nobel Prize winners, and have the cell phone number of a third on a post-it stuck in my wallet.
3) Have been inside the vault where they keep the Apollo moon rocks in Houston Space Center.

Was born 3 months early at 2 lbs and 15 Oz...

Went skiing in -55*F temps...

Got caught in a small avalanche on a very narrow winding mountain road...(car was pushed almost off road...)

---
Av related...On my first solo xc, just as I got on with APP, they immediately called traffic 12 o'clock, opposite direction, less than 1 mile, two hundred feet below you, climbing...

But with whom did you go down, or would that be telling?

I'm going to have to think about this. So much in the past 24 years has been with Leslie, so it doesn't fall into the "unique" category. Maybe we're too inseparable!:rofl:

1. Made a skydive from a Boeing 727, in which I captured a fantastic photo of my (then) girlfriend (now wife) and her brother. The entire thing was caught on film from a King Air flying formation, and was on National Geographic Explorer....
2. Was in a 201 person skydiving formation, in which I exited the DC-3 from the outside door frame (called "floating") at 20,000 feet AGL, and we were right-trail of an 11-airplane formation.
3. Launched a Tomahawk Cruise Missile.

What a great thread!

errr, flying around New Zealand for a few weeks?

Okkay, I guess I can wade into this one...

1) Met Buzz Aldrin on national TV.
2) Got called "uncool" by Quentin Tarantino. (From him, I take that as a compliment.)
3) Got motion sickness on national TV while taking a zero-G airplane ride.
4) (since 1) isn't unique enough, probably) Had a major television network set me up for dates.

This is too easy for me...

Ooh, I just thought of another one.

1. I nearly knocked Margaret Thatcher on her can.
2. While I was seeking a job in London, I stayed (for three weeks) with a current Baroness in the House of Lords.

Number 2 and number 1 are related.

Man, after you guys, I am dull.

1. Flew to Catalina Island in a Bell 206 with Tommy Chong (and his daughter), and my wife.

2. Dinner with Alice Cooper and Cheech Marin (separated in time from the Chong encounter referenced above by 20 years or so). (Edit: Both were nice as could be, in marked contrast to Carroll Shelby, who was crabby, although to be fair, at his age, he's earned the right...)

3. Saw Chuck Norris clipping his nails on an airline flight from DAL to LAX. He left the clippings on the seat. Really.

Troy- No, not Stone. It was AnneLise Coberger from New Zealand ( I coached there for 10 years).

Guess Frank Cason and I both have seen some weather- from -50C in Canada, to +130F in El Centro, Calif. (It was over 300F in the furnaces we were welding in at the time, while wearing full leathers and hoods, 20 minutes in, 40 minutes out)

Ewwww! I knew I didn't like Chuck Norris.

I could tell some pax stories but pax stories are off limits for public posting, LOL.

1. Meet and shook hands with Walt Disney at the press preview day for Disneyland July 17, 1955.
2. Flew right seat on a 747 for 5 minutes at 41k feet with the auto pilot off.
3. Was paid as a ride along tech rep on an month long around the world charter that cost the passengers $49500 per seat. What a sweet gig.
Ron

errr, flying around New Zealand for a few weeks?
As I said, we do these things together! Landing on a beach, we both did it. Landing at Milford Sound, okay, that's me. :) Getting a NZ pilot certificate, that's both of us (and a couple others here). Catching a shark? Both of us, again. Taking a Mercedes through the off-road trails in Moab? Both of us (though I was driving). Parking a 172 at an International gate next to a 747, that's Leslie. Not saying that we haven't done some really neat things, but it's usually both of us, and it's almost chance as to who's the one "doing" it! And some of the things I've done on my own, I'm not sure I want to admit to!

Hmmm.... this thread is very illuminating!

Holy cow -- only 3??

1. Lip-synced "Sharp Dressed Man" in front of 43 High School Sophomores in my US History Class (I was the teacher)
2. Married at 19 (and still married, 28 years later)
3. Canoed 218 Miles down the Susquehanna river with my (then) 14-year old son (I made him keep a diary -- "Day One: I miss my mom. The food is bad.")
3. Raced against Floyd Landis (road bicycle -- he won -- by a lot)
3. Rode 160 MPH on a Yamaha FZ1 motorcycle (it wasn't legal)

1. Hitchhiked the circumference of the USA.

2. Rode a 1000 mile day on a Harley... while passing a gallstone.

3. Did an approach to BOTH ends of 05L/23R at a class C airport at the same time, with a 737 on short final (but, uh, not for long... :D)

1. One parachute failure
2. Fell through the ice, had to break the ice all the way to the shore to get out
3. Shot an arrow dead center into another

These are awesome lists... I have done a few things mentioned above, but sure can't top most of 'em.

But here's a few I might have exclusive rights to:

-Played drums- and bass- onstage at CBGBs on more than one occasion

-Foiled an attempt to rob me at gunpoint in Hoboken, NJ (is that more or less exotic than Sudan?)

-And last but not least.... drumroll please...
Appeared in a porno film! :D

My former wife claimed that she slept with the entire South African Olympic Bobsled team.

LOL business class cabin, JFK-LHR. They were SAs living here attending school in the US. They tried, and failed, to get on the US Olympic Team... so they switched colors and represented the home turf. They looked at it as a grand life experience aka boondoggle. They had no chance of winning but I know they had a good time!
