Human heart found on Southwest flight, causing plane to turn around

Someone left a human heart onboard a recent Southwest Airlines flight from Seattle, causing the Dallas-bound flight to turn around.

Like a mishandled bag, the heart was mistakenly kept on the connecting flight instead of being taken out of the cargo hold in Seattle.

Ha.

Having purchased human hearts for research, I'd bet that this was a research shipment. Given transplant viability timelines (and the limited number of hearts appropriate for transplant), no one is missing that delivery....

Was there a flight attendant named Rose on that flight? She stole my heart, too.....

Transplant hearts are carried on. They're shipped in small igloo coolers. I was working at Hopkins and the joke was always how low tech the heart transplant transport was. The other things like kidneys and stuff take more elaborate life support to go between patients.

Kidneys will outlast ice, unlike hearts...

I was flying from Charleston, SC, to Cincinnati, and had some fresh shark I had "harvested". I had it in a small red and white Igloo cooler, with a wrap of wide gaffer's tape to prevent accidents. I was given first class escort on to the plane! I had no clue why for about a year.

Can you imagine the hilarity that would ensue if you faked transporting a heart for transplant? You could "accidentally" spill the contents in front of all of the unsuspecting passengers. "Ohhhhhhhhh, fuuuuuudge!"

Years ago I took a hunting trip with a bunch of friends, we brought back quite a few ducks in styrofoam containers packed with ice. When the luggage came out on the carousel it seems the baggage handlers were a little careless with the styrofoam boxes.
There was blood all over a good majority of the other people’s luggage. Luckily one of the guys worked in the airports fire department. We were able to pick up the boxes on the backside of the carousel.
You would not believe how p$ssed the people were, we didn’t say a word.

Trip to Hawaii. Change in flights. Luggage supposed to come in on the next flight behind us. Didn't. We got a voucher to buy some stuff (don't need much there). They would call us when the had it an arrange delivery. Didn't.

We called the airline multiple times over the next two days. They had no idea. Day three I decided to go to the baggage department where our luggage had been sitting for three days.

The lost heart beats that,

Reminds me of Edgar Allan Poe

That's OK, back years ago a cargo door blew out of a DC-10 and dropped a casket over the French countryside.
