The year: not bad, but not as many hours as I’d hoped

Yes I never add up the total cost.
I fly a little less each year until I retire. Then I plan to get back to flying everyday.
I do like to add up my landings since I do a lot of pattern work. Been doing a lot of one wheel, no flap T&Gs to save my tires.
I will add them up soon. Hope to fly again before the year ends.
I flew the pattern on the 27th because the ceiling was really low. I did 6 landings.

To rub salt in the wound: Just to give my flying brethren something to compare against: All in (hanger, insurance, fuel & oil, stuff) $8300/yr, $700/month, $106/hr. Plus, my hanger costs are going up $2400 next yr. (I’m paying a convenience fee to be 1 hr closer to the plane next year).

Well if I didn’t add it up, my wife would.

My wife would not know what to total up and nor would she care.
She is always bugging me to go to the airport and fly. Even in the bad weather...is she trying to tell me something? lol

Ohhh, you added it up. Never add up the costs.
Seriously, just don't. Last summer I flew my RV-8 to Alaska; I had a notepad ready to keep track of all expenses, fuel/hotels and whatnot. But nope, that idea was shelved by Day 2; I'm out having a grand adventure. It costs what it costs, no need to keep track!

Never seen anybody track their hours to the nearest 36 second interval!

And hey, you still have 3 days left to boost those numbers a bit...
Yeah, now that you mention it. I asked ForeFlight logbook to generate a report for the year 28 Dec 24 to 28 dec 25. That’s what it spit out. Some anomaly in my flight log, I imagine.i’ll do better next year.

I am at the airport warming up the plane and hangar. Looks like a good day to fly, got to boost my end of year numbers!
About a12 kt X wind. It might be one of those rough cold clear sky days.
If it is then I will do couple landings and call it a year ? There is still tomorrow.
310,000btu warming up the plane and hangar. 4 heaters running
.Engine has a heating pad on the sump. Day like today it will be plugged in for a couple hours.IMG_6110.jpeg

And I stick this 1970s hair dryer in the cowl.
My late father used this hair dryer on the distributors caps in gas truck engines to get them started in the cold wet weather. I learned this from the flight school, they would hand me a hair dyer and send me out to the plane first thing in the morning. They wouldn't allow us to fly em under 10°F or rent them. When I bought my first airplane,I kept a spread sheet of all costs associated with the plane. After a year I stopped tracking expenses, wanted to enjoy the airplane. After owning many airplanes I pay as I go with the ongoing costs of ownership.

I never made a spread sheet, but I do keep a hand written log in the plane and list every flight and all maintenance and repairs done to the plane with the dates and hours since I started flying it spring of 2018. Makes for a quick reference to see how many hours are on certain parts.
I have box full of receipts for the next owner.
Not a very nice day to fly today, it's MVFR. So I finally updated my log book.
105 hrs this year, 302 day landings.13 night landings. 108 VFR flights.

Down from 164 hrs last year. Early on 6-7 years ago I flew 265 hrs one year. 99% in this 172.

Happy New Years.

I didn't get as many glider hours as I had planned. My total Airplane+Glider hours were down about 15hrs from last year but about on par with the last 10yr average. I need to change that trend. I did spend less time in the tow plane this year.
