We had some wonderful benign IMC in IL this morning, so I flew to KSLO to get some $3.85 gas, shoot an approach, and add a pin to my map. Nice neat little airport with what appears to be a private residence with it's back door opening up to the ramp. I was super jealous.

Flanked on either side by old bowstring truss hangars bigger than the house, and complete with a rideable beacon in the back yard.

Anyway got 3 loggable approaches; 1 RNAV and 2 VOR, a hold, an old fashioned "turn ten, twist ten" arc, and about an hour of actual, all without the autopilot. I was worried currency would become a chore, but so far I'm still enjoying it.

Nice! There’s a small community at the north end of FGU who have their own hangars in their backyard with access to the runway. Must be nice to walk out back and go flying!

I've attended many. Some of them at airports that have beacons. And I still don't know. C'mon now, give it up

I'd love to but I ain't got an airplane anymore. It broke a few years ago and was beyond fixing without a piggy bank much bigger than mine. Kinda a long way away to.

Rough river has a pathetic little beacon, although I think there's a couple guys crazy enough to try.

The one at SLO is a big 40's era unit. Could probably ride that sucker tandem or even 3-up.

Did anyone climb the beacon @Dave Theisen? I was wondering if @eman1200 might mistake it for a stripper pole.
