We had some wonderful benign IMC in IL this morning, so I flew to KSLO to get some $3.85 gas, shoot an approach, and add a pin to my map. Nice neat little airport with what appears to be a private residence with it's back door opening up to the ramp. I was super jealous.

Flanked on either side by old bowstring truss hangars bigger than the house, and complete with a rideable beacon in the back yard.

Anyway got 3 loggable approaches; 1 RNAV and 2 VOR, a hold, an old fashioned "turn ten, twist ten" arc, and about an hour of actual, all without the autopilot. I was worried currency would become a chore, but so far I'm still enjoying it.

Nice! There’s a small community at the north end of FGU who have their own hangars in their backyard with access to the runway. Must be nice to walk out back and go flying!

Ah Ha!!!! Rough River has a beacon. They didn't say nuthin bout that. I knew they was they keepin secrets. Or maybe they were just to chicken to do it at a State owned airport. Buncha weenies I tells ya :stirpot:

Just an incentive to get you to come next year. :)

Rough river has a pathetic little beacon, although I think there's a couple guys crazy enough to try.

The one at SLO is a big 40's era unit. Could probably ride that sucker tandem or even 3-up.
