the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

I have to remember to put the blue locktite on the bolts holding the starter on my snow thrower. Fortunately this morning the bolts were only loose and not missing. When they get loose, the starter won't engage. And, of course, if they get too loose, they disappear.

WTH is vegan leather.??

I just saw a Tv commercial to recover furniture and car seats and it appeared the merchandise they are selling was real vegan leather.

Are there really carnivorous cows running around.??

Or are we just talking about faux leather.??

zeldman, who has stepped in what bears do in the woods...

can they make leather from tofu?

(it probably would improve the taste...)

We have an early contender for dumbest journalism of the year…

Excerpt of the comments in a WaPo article about airlines hitting high speeds going to Europe due to the jet stream. Always amusing.
Did the Washington Post article at least get the science better than The Independent that I screenshotted a couple posts up? I picked that one because they not only don't understand how the speed of sound works but also don't understand what the word "subsonic" means.

The comments are great, though. Are there some good Internet warriors tirelessly replying to explain things to everyone?

Hah, yes - the explanation in the WaPo article seems sound (pun intended). There is even a brief sentence explaining the difference between air speed and ground speed. And there usually are a few pilots eagerly correcting comments in the WaPo comment section of articles on the subject of our great hobby/profession.

So if I remember the plot of Blade Runner, part of the problem was detecting the difference between a human and a replicant.

Today, is it possible to tell the difference between an AI generated story, and a "journalist" generated story? They both seem to mostly give incorrect answers based on pretty much nothing except kowledge of a bit of English sentence structure and an ability to collect data without really understanding any of it. I want to say I'm kidding, but not really.

. . . . knowledge of a bit of English sentence structure . . .
I missed that part.

So. If the reporting “A” makes less sense than reporting “B”, “A” must be human. A reverse Turing Test.

On a related note, I didn't post what I was going to post in another thread. Again.

I hope all of you are proud of me.

I went to the doctor the other day. She said my Vagus Nerve was over stimulated. A few temporary side effects, but will clear on its own in few days. I think symptoms are fairly mild, don't even know if anyone can tell.
