Do you suppose if pilots had their way, rather than the 48 contiguous states being referred to as the Continental United States, that they'd be referred to as the Lycoming United States? It seems that most pilots prefer Lycoming over Continental.

Just wondering.

Yes. Talk about product placement. Maybe we would have nicer winters with the Lycoming United States since they deal with carb ice better ;)

I'd vote for that. Although most people don't know it's actually the Lincoln Continental United States because that's what Christopher Columbus and his homeboys rolled up in.

And all these years I mistakenly thought Queen Isabel I had lent him a Mercury Marquis...

Somehow, Washington leading the Lycoming Army doesn't quite have the same tone.

Not unless they say there are seven lycomings that make the land mass on Earth.

Given the ownership of Continental that should now be the Chinese United States.

Continental United States includes 49 states (don't forget Alaska). Contiguous United States includes 48 states. But I like the sound of Lycoming!

The FAA likes to use the term conterminous rather than contiguous but the refer to the same thing (lower 48).

Lucy: It's all I can do to remember there are 46 states.
Ethyl: 48
Lucy: Oh yeah. I must've forgotten Alaska and Hawaii.

Since the merger, it should be called the United United States.

I just call it "Texas, and her servants." ;-)
