Yes they did do fine. She stated that you only have some 30% chance of survival doing an emergency landing in the dirt vs a road. As low hour pilot, I'm going to have to give that statistic some thought and research.

That "dirt" strip being referred to here is actually a very good friend of mines ranch. It's got a few layers of asphalt grindings that have been compacted in. It's very smooth and water doesn't effect it at all. We fly his scout out of there every once in awhile.

One of my neighboring area partners was on patrol and caught a rather nasty local tweaker gal doing the deed with a random guy (right on the side of the road...). After we showed up and everyone was decent, he remarked to the guy (off to the side) "if I were you, I'd go soak that in gasoline.." The guy stands there with a look like he's trying to think of a comeback for several seconds, then bows his head and says "yes sir, gasoline" and walked away. I was in stitches...
