I have been planning a trip to the northeast, likely to KLEB in Lebanon NH. It is not the least expensive place to stop with avgas at $7.80 per gallon, but I have people near there. My idea is to stop at KAQW about 70 NM away and top off with Self Service 100LL at $4.75 per gallon. Then later I'll top off about 5 gallons at KLEB and save $15 for one night of tie down fees. Don't judge. I'm a pilot. I'm cheap and frugal at the same time!

KAQW is in Massachusetts. A few years ago I read about one of the NE states assessing transient aircraft personal property tax if they stopped overnight or for fuel. Is that really a thing or has that matter been resolved?

Has anyone here bought 100LL at KAQW? is there anything I should be aware of?

Thank you all in advance.

KAQW is a nice airport. Surrounded by mountains and lots of glider activity, pay attention. Right traffic for 29, the glider pattern is south of the field and the powered pattern is north.

I've stopped for fuel there a couple of times and stayed overnight once to go hiking along the AT which runs near the airport. No issues, and no parking fees. There's a nice restaurant just outside the airport entrance.

KLEB will give you a bottle of maple syrup with your fuel purchase. I don't recall the amount required.

Also, they rank high on my list of FBOs for their GA friendliness. And the tower, especially for being a contract tower, is top notch. Gave my non-pilot friend a tour before we departed.

I'll second AQW, North Adams, being a friendly place. PSF and GBR, just south of there, are also friendly and have fuel. No idea about prices. I've never seen or heard of the tax thing you're asking about, but I'm not a legal or tax guy by any stretch.

Fall is a really great time to fly up this way for the scenery. Hope you have a great trip!

Since Parlan Field was mentioned, does anyone here have any experience with CNH Clairmont NH?

I believe that proposal died. Especially when they discovered that all those big expensive jets taking vacationers to the Cape and Islands would stop coming. Also all the maintenance shops that people bring their airplanes for maintenance and upgrades would go out of business.

Ironically enough everything GA is tax exempt in Massachusetts.
Nah... you still pay the $100 or more "annual registration fee" based on the weight of your aircraft. Same in NH.

Ah, but it's "not a tax", just like in CT.

Correct, but I would rather give them a couple hundred bucks a year instead of 6.25% of the purchase price, 6.25% on parts and $25 a thousand annually on the assessed value.
