Steve Jobs gone West

God must have needed a better computer,
Prime example of all the money in the world won't keep your time from coming. Keep your ducks lined up you never know when.

That is sobering. A brilliant innovator has left the world after putting up a brave fight against pancreatic cancer. Rest in peace.

The come back of all time in the history of business.

It sucks he worked almost to the grave. And in a very stressful position too.

God speed.

As he wanted it:

(This is worth a view for, well, anyone. Pretty amazing to see him with the Reality Distortion Field turned off - Good stuff.)

RIP to a man who truly changed many facets of our worlds for the better. That YouTube video (his commencement address at Stanford) had a ton of good stuff, I highly recommend it!

Absolutely.

?Your time is limited, so don?t waste it living someone else?s life. Don?t be trapped by dogma ? which is living with the results of other people?s thinking. Don?t let the noise of other?s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.? -- Steve Jobs

Maybe that's what he needed to do.

How he did it I have no idea. Pancreatic is an ugly, painful way to go. (Mother-in-law had it.)

RIP.

My Dad died from Pancreatic Cancer. I'm amazed Steve lasted as long as he did. RIP.

I thought it interesting that the liver transplant only gave him two additional years.

It's a crapshoot sometimes. Not to mention, all the immunosuppression you are on also inhibits immune response that (sometimes) can slow or inhibit cancer...

No guarantees.

Maybe I misspoke. I find it interesting that he was willing to take the risk and also had the means to do so. The end result was only two more years.

Only Steve can tell us what those two more years meant to him, and whether he felt he spent them well. It's too late to ask.

Kinda in the same vein of, "If you only had two years to live, what would you do?" hypothetical questions.

Maybe we will find out. His bio is due to come out next month, and Steve was participating.

And now Tim Apple is retiring!
Yep.

Even the Apple Watch was supposedly a Jobs thing, one of the things that he discussed with Tim Cook just hours before Jobs' passing. The Apple Vision Pro is really the only big hardware thing from Cook's tenure, though technology isn't yet to the point to allow for the vision of the product to be reality yet - It'll be amazing when we can have that capability in a pair of glasses instead of a "nerd helmet".

However, Cook's replacement, John Ternus, is an engineer and has always been a hardware guy, and he's been with Apple for 25 years... Hopefully some of Jobs' magic rubbed off on him.

He gave the world the AirPods.
Meh... In my book, those are an accessory.

I don't think anyone expected visionary hardware from Tim Cook. That's not his thing. He was the undisputed master of supply chain management, but had no design or engineering experience prior to becoming CEO. Apple didn't need a CEO to be visionary after Jobs, they needed a CEO who would keep the ship steady, and he did an excellent job of that. He also managed to get a lot of (recurring) revenue in services, so that they're less dependent on selling a certain number of iPhones every year to achieve the desired financial results. Overall, he wasn't exciting or visionary like Jobs, but he did a really good job of what he needed to do and Apple did really well under his leadership.

For those with mild to moderate hearing loss the Pro models are a VERY useful accessory.
And they will translate languages in real time. I’ve just picked up the AirPods Pro 3. Had Pro 2 before that. Very helpful device.

In my day job at Flex, we built the last two versions of the Apple Mac Pro. They were only made in the US, here in Austin.

During Trump's first term, he came to our factory to talk about jobs being brought back to the US. Of course being President, there was quite a motorcade for him, but other than the lack of police, Tim's was just about as big and impressive!

That's for sure.

I was happy to find that my hearing loss isn't as bad as I thought when I took the hearing tests on both the Lightspeed Delta Zulu and AirPods Pro 3 recently... But I'm ever more mindful of protecting what I have left. I was messing around with adaptive noise cancellation and conversation awareness at a noisy restaurant the other day. It wasn't as good as I wanted it to be, but it's better than just about anything else could be.

What I really want is voice recognition to be combined with the adaptive cancellation so that when my wife or son start speaking first it brings *only* their volume up and still cancels everyone else. Maybe next year!

That's another thing I'm looking forward to trying.

Yeah, but I bet Cook's motorcade came in several "STUNNING!" colors and had the BEST drivers we've ever seen! :D

a friend has not been impressed with the live translate to/from Mandarin (he was born in mainland china)

(hopefully it will improve over time)

It’s like a talking dog, and people complain about its diction…

I haven’t tried that feature yet, but have read that they use Spanish from Spain, not Mexico. That could be a problem when talking to José the yard man.

still poor taste
