Living in Central Texas, I'm about a 5.5 hour drive from the launch site. I have no idea why I haven't watched a launch before now, but I know it won't be my last! Not only can you see it, it rumbles through you.

Instead of air-to-air, ground-to-space?

Nice pics. How far away are you from the launch pad?

Six miles? I'm guessing those pics aren't from a cell phone.

I need to make it for a launch one day.

You have a fast shutter finger! And camera. Digital is amazing.

In the Army, a Signal Corps radio team was about a mile down range from an Honest John launch in the Italian
Alps. 35 mm film, no one got more than 1 frame. They were extremely unhappy about being sited directly under the flight, which passed a few hundred feet above them.

The launch was out of a deep valley, to a mountain15 miles away. They were on the ridge for line of sight secure radio back to base 15 miles away.

A little bit of apples-and-oranges, there. Starship doesn't exactly zip off the pad--it takes ~5ish seconds from first motion to clearing the tower. There's time to snap several frames even with an old-timey film camera.

Beautiful pictures, Jack. Watching a launch is definitely on my bucket list. When we had a family home in the lower Keys, I made a few plans to witness a shuttle launch but weather/technical delays always scuttled the event. If you were flying down to view a launch, what airport would you suggest?

Thank you.

I'm not sure where I would fly into. I think a lot of people chose KPIL Cameron County. You might have a better chance of getting a rental car in KBRO Brownsville though.

I saw it passing over southern Florida. Amazing sight. We see a lot of launches from KSC, but this was something else. None of us knew what it was. We all said WTF is that??? Had to Google it to figure it out.

Thank you! I was about six miles away. I want to get closer next time. Will work on a media pass or charter a boat!
I'd b e surprised it you could charter a boat to get closer than 6 miles. SpaceX and NASA have range clearance requirements in case things go awry.

It's about 5 miles, but no obstructions.

I was actually surprised people can get as close as they do. Even the TFR allows you to get pretty close. With all of the malfunctions they've had, not sure anyone in the area is safe!

Years ago I flew past a launch at Kennedy took me by surprise a sight I’ll never forget, it’s in a 172

Very nice pictures! I’ll have to attend one of those one day.

I was in Melbourne, FL when the first Falcon Heavy launched and it was as loud as a continuous cannon fire. The Starship+Booster is several times bigger, heavier and louder, so I can imagine it is a real gut shaker.

Since I, too am only a few hours away from Starbase, I need to get down there for a launch before it becomes too much trouble to get near it.
