Looks like some law was passed somewhere requiring that battery operated smoke detectors have sealed in batteries that last 10 years (the life of the detector).

Do these 10 year batteries really last 10 years?

I don’t know if they last 10 years, but the drop in ones that are labelled as 10 year for smoke detectors don’t. I replaced mine in the house system when I installed standalone smoke/CO detectors in all of the bedrooms. That was three years ago and one is still going strong, but the one in direct sunlight has been replaced twice now.

Hmm, I noticed that these units with 10 year sealed batteries also have 10 year warranties which makes my original question a moot point. Guess it's time to read the fine print.

I've bought hundreds of the 10 year detectors.
Most last 9-10 years. Some 10% fail early
