I read that the "Registry" is still operating during the shutdown. What is the registry? Is it only the web page where you look up N numbers and such, or are they processing documents?

I've got another plane coming in a few days and I'm loath to send in the bill of sale & registration if it's only going to sit in a mail bin.

Thanks Paul

They may be in forced vacation mode but you still have to do your due diligence and send in your paperwork. Much like the IRS, you have to send them your money but they may not send you your refund.

Registry is open as they were deemed essential in the 2018 FAA bill.

Send it in as you’ll have the carbon pink slip. Which is all that’s needed to prove you did you due diligence. Throw it in the plane and enjoy the new toy!

For all 90 days of it. What do you do then? Do another one?

You’d have to get an extension, I believe, through the Registry. They aren't shutdown so I’d would guess it would go through within 90 Days.

They’re currently working apps filed on Nov 8th according to the website.

Nah....heard somewhere it’s a Strike, not a Shutdown .

How about tempeorary certificates? My buddy is coming up on his 120 days. Are they able to issue him a new temp?

That’s actually a really good question. I do not know.

Only an ASI or AST can reissue a temp. I’d have him contact his airline’s FAA office, if a airline guy, and hope the manager answers. If that doesn’t work I’d try the airline Check Airman Manager and see what he says. They should know a way to get into contact with the FAA during the shutdown. If he’s GA then try the local FSDO. It’s just a paperwork shuffle and a call to Airman Records.

He’s between a rock and a hard place.

If he’s airline has he at least consolidated? If not that is even more unfortunate.

This sort of confusion and reduction in important services is what many people do not understand happens when there is a shutdown, and that includes those precipitating it.

I think it’s just his CFI renewal. That’s interesting though with the airline thing. Does a person dequal if they can’t give him a temp? I’m thinking yes because his certificate is invalid if it’s past the expiration. I guess the airline’s hands are tied?

They’d pull you from the line until your new ATP temp comes in. One would hope they’d pay you because it no fault of your own. But I wouldn’t put it past them not to.

If he hasn’t consolidated then he’ll be sent back to the sim for a new PC to reset the clock. I got close at PSA due to a surgery that kept me home for a month. Thankfully, one of the LCAs “recommended” me for additional IOE trips for “landings”. That kept me from dequaling.
