Seat recovering

Early childhood memories were of my mom with her Singer sewing machine. She made dresses for my sisters, even their wedding dresses. Had left over material and later made the grandchildrens's Baptism baby outfits.

Need a suit growing up as a kid, we'd buy something off the discount rack and she re did it to fit / tailored.

A lost art. But back then, it was necessity. She grew up in the depression, so if you wanted something you made it yourself.

I am having a local auto upholstery shop recover a seat bottom and 2 armrests with substantially similar color fabric for $375 including fabric and taxes.

Where’d you get the seamstress? Included with the Singer?

Nope, came with her own! Ha! A featherweight… she was duly shocked when I recognized it immediately.

She now has two… her first, which her mother bought new, and now my mothers featherweight as well!

My wife, when in hi school took custom upholstery class for 2 years her Jr and Sr years in hi school. I was dating her at the time and she helped me re cover car seats. She has done quite a bit of upholstery since then. We both have.
She used to have a heavy duty sewing machine but I can't remember for sure what happened to it. We did have a 20 year span when we weren't together so some things are a blur.
I learned enough to recover seats that someone else has done the sewing a head of time.

Does she do Piper seats?
As long as you are okay with a lead time defined as "as soon as I can possibly get it done", we could probably arrange something. With the baby crawling and getting into everything, just about everything that gets done around here that requires two hands happens when she is sleeping. :goofy:

so...2044?
If I can average 30 minutes a day instead of twenty, we might be able to bring that forward all the way to say, 2039 or so...

More seriously, it would probably be two or three months, depending on the material and how much hand sewing would be required.

I had my piper seats reupholstered in 2016 with leather I bought from Tandy. They still look great but if I had it to do all over again, I’d do it with one of the feux leather products. It wears longer, is lighter, and doesn’t require the upkeep as real leather does.
